Switched to a 28 PCI carb and now my throttle cable is sticking. It's like there is not enough tension on the cable? As well the new carb starts and idles great but it's bogging a bit under acceleration.

Any input would be appreciated...

Here is a video of it bogging down. Had to use a spring for now because the stock spring looks like it does not have enough strength close the throttle and bring the pedal back after it's pushed down. I hope the audio is good enough to hear what's happening. I am having to burp the throttle to overcome the carb from bogging down on smooth acceleration. To be clear the carb it bogging down of smooth acceleration and the engine then dies.

Check to see that the accelerator pump is working correctly. Remove the main jet and make sure it is clean of any debris. These are the only things that generally go wrong with these carbs. Both are related to deposits left when old gas evaporates. I see you have a distributor without a vacuum advance, is the port on the carb plugged properly? I would go back to a stock disty myself.

I believe it is plugged properly, you mean this is not the stock distributor?

The original distributor has a vacuum advance with a metal tube that connects to the right side of the carburetor.

It looks like you have a standard 009?

A 36hp will run ok with an 009 though, as long as the timing is set correctly. You can usually set it to the same as stock - 7.5BDTC

I believe Ev meant right side of the carburetor. Since there is no vacuum line entering the right side of your carburetor its a clue that: It's a little hard to see the distributor in your video but it does appear to be aluminum bodied. The original distributors for this vintage were cast iron, have a vacuum canister and steel line with a Bosch oval badge. The part number VJU 4 R 8 should appear on the badge.

You can use your 009 distributor if the vacuum port on the carb is plugged properly.

Look up Glenn or Ed Fall for a restored stock distributor. They are not cheap, but you can't beat the quality.

Yes, I made a typo above where I said distributor instead of carburetor.
I have edited it.

Since you do not have a vacuum line attached to the carburetor, it should have a little screw in the carburetor vacuum port.

Look for a little screw on the right lower side.

Since tasb posted, I will mention his ads for these distributors:

There are also numerous ads in the classifieds.
Search on
36 hp distributor
there
