Hello all,

My friend has a 72 Porsche 914 that needs and engine rebuild. It had water in the cylinders but didn't seize so I think it's rebuildable. This would be my first 914 build but I have built a 1600cc type 1 motor so I am not totally new to the engine building scene. I want to help him out but since I've never done this style of engine I'm not sure what to look for in the rebuild.

Basically I was hoping some of you Porsche guys might have some tips on what to look for and what needs to be replaced that might be different than a type 1. Also good places to find parts (type IV if they are compatible to save on $)

Thanks for the help

MC

Buy the BugMe video that has Jake Raby take apart a type 4 engine and puts if back together. If you have done a type 1 you can do a type 4 but they have lots of little differences to watch out for.
Download the Porsche 914 Factory manual as it's around on the net for the in depth "How To"...
Or use the Bus Bentley manual as it's pretty much the same and a good manual.

I used Raby's video and it was great. Actually pretty simple.
