Al recommended not to change the rollers, they are stained but are in excellent condition, and once installed you won't see them. Al says the quality of the new rollers don't match up to factory quality, but he is sending a replacement set if I want to install them. |
Looks great! I think we're building the same car
I'm having the same debate about the rollers and sliding blocks. I bought replacements from WW but I haven't installed them. I'm leary to change out the originals since the roof worked so nicely before disassembly.
Don't forget to rechrome the hook! _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

Great job on the beetle. What's the story on the 15 window, looks like a solid bus. _________________ SOUTHERN INTEGRITY AIRCOOLERS

The 15 window belongs to my buddy who owns the shop. He is a body man and his brother is a painter both he and his brother have been helping me with my car, he is hoping to have it finished next year. _________________ Ethan Dunlap

a little progress
Also got my Goldie handle back from the chromer, and a couple of other handles although not period correct they are cool
Not sure if I will use the ribbed handles yet but they are originals so they will be easy to sell if I decide not to use them. _________________ Ethan Dunlap

Awesome work and awesome color..
i want to make mine with L469 anthracite, too.. (even it's not the correct model-year)
now these pictures confirmed my decision..
i got a paint-sample from my paint-garage, the old mixture is indeed a little brownish (but depends on light) and new water-based mixture is more grey. the differences are really subtle.. |

Well I got a little done today I scraped 54 years of hard greasy grime from my axle tubes and my buddy Miguel put some time behind the sandblaster and got them even cleaner.
Smoothing it out a little
Also the UPS man was kind to me this past week....
Got my tranny mount in. Some really nice welds
Also after a 16 week wait I finally got my spring plates in. Awesome product, but a horrible company to deal with. I wouldn't recommend them at all. This is actually the passenger side so it's upside down in this picture but you get the idea.
