OK, only one is haunted. 92 Cabriolet, power windows. Parked it for the season, once in a while the passenger window will be rolled down, have to put the key in and roll it back up. Will go for weeks and then, it's down again. I'd suspect the switch, except the key has to be in the run position before I can work it. Any ideas ? ( other than the wife taking me on the short drive to "Crazy" )

I suspect you have critters.
Also I'd install a battery cut off switch on the Neg Terminal of the battery for storage.
The battery cut off switch may save the battery from low current draw,
but will not fix the "short" you are experiencing.
If it is critters, the battery cut off switch could save the car from an electrical fire.

It's a VW thing. Mostly in the Corrados and MkIII's I believe. Check the vortex in a search. I too have the problem in my Rado and started to search it. I think its in the drivers door believe it or not but I had "must do's" on the car and was unable to finish that project. I did what ach60 suggested in the mean time until I can get back to it.

Been unable to get back to working on the Cabby until this last weekend. Neither window will go up or down. I push either switch in either direction up or down and I hear a "click" like the relay is trying to work, but no movement from either window. I checked the fuse, it's good. Should I take off the door panels and try putting power directly to the motors or is there a better path to checking out what's going on ?
