|
|
I'm not new to VW or thesamba, this is a new account so don't bash me.
I'm having problems with my distributor on a 1973 Beetle. There is a green wire that broke off but I can't figure out where the heck it is suppose to connect to. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The green wire goes from the distributor to the NEGATIVE side of the coil. _________________ 1968 Volkswagen Bug w/ 1600 Dual Port

Thank you. Obviously you can't start the car without it connected correct? |

I'm not sure about that. I know when I was younger my condenser went out while at a friends house. I was able to drive it home in first gear, but it was missing like crazy. You'd just have to try it. _________________ 1968 Volkswagen Bug w/ 1600 Dual Port

I doubt it will start. You'll need to replace the wire. You should be able to get it from your local auto parts store. You could always half tap the condenser wire. They're the same circuit. Both wires go to a spade terminal inside of the distributor. From there the points connect to the terminal. _________________ 1968 Volkswagen Bug w/ 1600 Dual Port

Just buy a new condenser. They're not expensive. That wire is attached. In fact, I doubt you can just buy the wire by itself.
Just make sure you get the right condenser for your distributor. The 009 condenser is different than the one for the distributor with vacuum advance. One won't fit on the other. |

Thank you guys. I'll just buy a new condenser tomorrow. Dropping my 67 off at bugformance anyways. IF I have more issues, I'll let yall know.
Thanks again.

And where have you been that you assume you might be bashed for being a newbie?
You're in The Samba now. You're an ACVW owner. We won't bite your head off.
Welcome!
By the way, it would be better if you purchased a good Bosch condenser for your distributor. Get whatever Autozone of Napa has. That will get your running. But get a spare--and order it from Jbugs, Wolfsburg West, whomever, and make sure it's a proper Bosch brand.

The green wire connects your points to the coil. Without it connected the points will not tell the coil to fire the spark plugs. _________________ Glenn
