got the heat tubes cleaned up and installed. also shimmed the body mounts to fine tune the door gaps.

got the brakes bled and adjusted yesterday. body is all bolted down and shimmed to fine tune the door gaps. all electrical is done. basically its down to painting the wheels, bumper brackets, seat frames, top frame and gas tank. then on to the trim (carpet, seats, top) I had to test the brakes so I took it for a spin..

Good choice on using the OG header and NOS rear. Doing a Ghia vert now and would have been a little easier with an OG header bow. It would have taken some guessing out of it for sure.
Your vert is going to be really nice when you're done. |

Thanks! I got lucky and was able to use almost all the original wood. the body bow was bad and the rear bow was home made so when I found that one NOS about ten years ago complete with the dome light bracket I had to have it. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)

I'm pretty sure this is 99.9% accurate for a Feb '63 build. Air cleaner is original paint and has no trace of ever having a decal or screen printed label on it. It came on this car and it has the original engine so I assume its the factory supplied air cleaner too.

Dave, my wife's 63 vert does not have the decal on the air cleaner either, so I'll bet we are not to far apart in production months. Thanks for your advice on the fender beading ... Don't know why I didn't think of that! Worked out great. Many thanks, Bob _________________ 1963 Convertible (Lizzie) and 1964 Convertible (Patience) 1976 Westfalia (Winnie) |

Beautiful engine! Kind of wild how they had the fuel line set up running from the pump to the carb. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Hey Bob, I noticed that your engine number is 75XXXXX. mine is 7465132. That puts them in the same month of production. Whats the first three digits in your vin? That would give us a better idea how close they are. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)
