|
|
Good grief I have wrestled these things 9 ways to Sunday.
I have new kick panels from Sewfine. I see the grooves where they go, I remember how the old ones were in there. I'm guessing Sewfine has a machine process for cutting these (not by hand) so I assume they're shaped correctly to fit.
I just can't get those last fractional inches and it throws off the entire fit. Meaning, they don't go completely in.
Has anyone installed Sewfine kick panels lately? Any tips you can share? _________________ Godspeed

Not Sewfine but I had to trim my panels down where they meet in the middle.
I would get one side in, go to install the other side and the one installed would pop out.
Hope it helps

Sewfine's process is to use a pattern and cut them on a band saw.
If they do not fit, can you trim them down just a bit, or are they finished around the edge?
BTW, I gotta put in a plug for Werksberg's ABS kick panels, here. They get all kinds of abuse from kicking to dripping water, stand up fine, and look good. _________________ John

The vinyl wraps around the side so I can't trim them down... _________________ Godspeed

X2
and they look pretty close to stock. to the o/p....you're screwed. why? well even if the used a clean original as a template, they never take into account the thickness of the material.
originals were pressboard with a super thin vinyl glued to the face only...it never wrapped around the edges
I have run into this with TMI and Sewfine. you'll need to unglue the edge, shave what you need to, then re glue. sucks.... _________________

Before you start butchering the panels check the groove that they sit in for any left behind debris. You can also use a flat edged tool like a scraper to open up the channel a little if required - I had to do this when I added vinyl to my Werksberg ones _________________ 1967 Ghia

FWIW, I have had to trim down even well used original panels to get them to fit. |
