Has anyone bought and used this particular fuel pump rebuild kit? Any good?

https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC-111-198-553

It's for a Pierburg pump original on 40hp with screw inlet.

If it's the same one that Wolfsburg West sells (looks like it) I've used it but not every part in it.

The parts I used worked fine except for the circular seal for the top cover - it was too small and leaked. Luckily I had another nice used seal to use.

This was a couple years ago so I don't know if this issue is fixed now.

If it is the same kit as WW sells, please make sure you save a few items-

The kit doesn't come with the plastic filter in the top. Also, the large spring is too stiff in the kit, so save and use your original spring. Also,I had the same experience as Everett, and my top leaked as well, and I ended up using a seal off of a spare pump.

I've rebuilt several fuel pumps and tend to reuse any part that doesn't show signs of wear. Some of the repop parts are not as "beefy" as the original. Also, it is important to prestress the diaphragm before tightening the screws. There is a whole thread on this forum on how to make a jig for that, out of 5/16" bolts and a piece of wood.

Here's where you can get the plastic screen:

Thanks for that. I might hold off on getting the rebuild kit until I've properly isolated my problems!

So, $35-40. I just bought an Airtex piersburg-style pump new for about that price...if you aren't into absolute originality

How's the pressure on the Airtex fuel pump? I've tried several of the aftermarket Pierburg style pumps and the pressure is 10-12 psi.

It's too high, there was a thread in the Bus area about this and how the guy took it apart to install an original spring instead.

My previous pump was an Airtex also....its now my backup pump...its problem was a migrating pin (fixed now) and the 2 have otherwise worked well for over 25k miles, and my car runs great, smooth and "powerful" (well, its no stroker or turbo...) I use only 2 gaskets - 1 top and 1 below the pump rod guide block.

The only drawback in my eyes is the pin is only retained in place by friction. On both of my pumps I removed the pins and drilled 1/16" holes on each end for cotter pins.

LOL - it must be the dynamite combination of 009, progressive Holley, and Airtex that makes it work so well. Maybe there's a SAMBA member nearby who can go for a ride with me and verify my claims.
