still not decided on direction for the sexcento. just wanna get it running and driving first. its got the 633cc block, but one of the pistons was f'ed so I gotta find a new set. might as well bore it to 62mm since those are the only pistons you can really get new, and i hear that is the max for this block. and maybe i can drop in an 850 crank? new to fiats. If i get frustrated I'll stuff some vw shit in the back of it-maybe.

Finished up the bulkhead repairs and got started installing the sub frame for the cargo floor. Used compression spot welder for all welds so far. Going to do a bit more with the gas welder in a bit. Looking much more solid now and starting to look like a reasonable project. Most metal is autocrat. Some crappy orange stuff too. Had to shorten the two orange tophats by about an 1/8inch on the driver's side to get it all lined up.

Good enough for who its for . . .

Wow, keep up the good work!

Do you have any more pictures? You've never even posted a pic of the front of the bus yet. Lots of detail shots, but not so many showing the whole bus.

Never been too photogenic, ha! I can take some more pics. There really isn't too much to see right now though. And its kinda shoehorned into the garage pretty good so not too much standing room to get a broader view. Tired of letting this thing sit dormant. Going to try to put a lot more time into it. Just bought doglegs and jack points. Might have to make an educated guess on the wheel well repair pieces.

moving towards the front of the project now. not really sure if i'm going to be successful getting all these panels patched up now, might have cut too much out to soon. got some ideas for getting it all back together though.

pics. have tomorrow off too, so maybe I can get a bit more done, have to find another couple of logs for old smokey though, its cold out there.

been too long since last update.

News: bought a 52 zwitter project. gonna build it class 11 style because thats what I want. have some barndoor reduction boxes to assist in this endeavor.

picked up a spare big nut trans for the bus on the same trip as getting the zwitter. you can fit a big nut trans in a box-era lincoln towncar trunk in case anyone is wondering.

Got the garage sealed up a bit better than last winter for heat retention. already had old smokey burning through pallets and other combustibles during the cold snap last week. So far this winter I've torn down 2.5 transmissions to build up new ones for all the projects. 1 for the panel, 1 for the zwitter, and 1 for a top secret vw based project that is not a fiat 600.

The machine shop I've been working with to get the fiat motor buildable gave me a recent update. block is clearanced for the 850 crank and 600d rods. pistons and head have been machined so they don't hit each other, and the big bore 62.2mm pistons have been fitted to the block as well. only thing left is valves before i can go pick that up.

made the executive decision to not roll the fiat into the garage just yet. want to focus on the panel and could use the extra room to move around in. going to move onto completing the front end repairs, starting with sandblasting what is left, which is admittedly not much. But logical order of operations is build transmissions first, sandblast second because sand and transmissions don't mix well. rebuild kits from rancho are on order for the transmissions. cleaning is next step.

also i cut up a 66 parts bus with a torch this weekend for fun. and because my Hamtramck is apparently a real city where you can't keep 'abandoned or junk' vehicles in your back yard.

Pictures to follow because no one reads words anyways.

theres the 52. Fiat is tucked in there behind it. Built the carport over the summer or maybe last summer; I don't remember now.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

pile of transmission junk. Big nut rgbs for the panel. Probably will use 4.125 r&p. maybe a .89 4th though. Not sure.

zwitter will likely get a 3.875 r&p .82 4th and the barndoor 1.4
:1 rgbs.

And then there is what's left of the 66. I just realized there was a cat here.

Someone should buy this so I can put more money into my projects.

There was about 50 gauges in the dash, hence the hack job. PO was an old FV racer dude who did many jersey styled things to the bus. It was probably way cool back in the day.

I occasionally find myself in battle creek for work, and elsewhere in MI for pleasure.

Still alive. Almost spring time so should be more motivated to get back to this project soon. Meanwhile there have been plenty of distractions.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Like this rusty ass 1960 bug that I bought for some reason. This is the 30th car that I've owned and I just turned 27 like 2 weeks ago. So that makes me officially crazy. came with a pretty complete 36hp motor, so that will probably end up in the 52 in the future.

Went down to TX in December to crawl through my piles of VW crap down there. found all the transmission bits that I need for the 3 builds I will be doing soon. Dad mailed them up and they arrived mid February. most of February was -10 to 0 degrees, so I haven't spent too much time out in the garage, though I have spent entirely too much time working on one or both of the lincolns out in the street. Sucks.

Next big step is to replace the centrifugal pump on my parts washer. Have to figure out how to remove the impellers and swap housings and stuff. Way more of a project than I wanted but thats how these things go. then should be able to clean up transmission guts and get to building them up. already have rebuild kits so maybe it will go quickly. need to clean the garage up soon because once the big thaw comes I need the parking space back in there. maybe. might sell my nice car so I can keep the garage for projects. going to work on parts washer this week because i need to get that done.

Hi Neil:
Glad to see you are keeping busy, and warm. Great to see you save the bus, the more of them on the road the better.
Your old chop top is still on the road with Pecos in Austin, cool little car!

I miss that chop top bug.

Been making a little bit of progress here and there. Finally got parts washer together and actually started cleaning stuff this week.

Here is the pump all disassembled and new seal kit.

Here is the case after the first round of cleaning with the washer in the background.

So nice to have this washer. Still can't use it for more than 2-3 hrs without my back acting up, so I'm cleaning in sessions after work. Have 3 transmissions to build for various projects, so it could take a while. Want to get it all done before May starts though because I need to rearrange the garage soon to make space for the Crown Vic.

Hamtramck busted me for 'junk cars' in my yard so I had to cut the bug up and move it to my basement.

Had to scrap the other lincoln too. Really upsetting.

If anyone needs any bug body panels around Detroit let me know. super cheap. only need to keep the roof for the split. maybe also the front clip, but we will see.

Got plans to patch up a strut tower on a Fiero and continue washing transmission parts up this weekend. Until next time . . .
