|
|
Whole car, doors, hood, decklid, etc was sprayed 2 months ago and is fully cured.
I "believe" I need to scotchbrite red the area to be filled and then use my filler. (Should I call it filler or bondo?)
Anyway, I went by my paint store today and he sold me Evercoat Rage Ultra body filler and said its great stuff.
Am I headed in the right direction?

I am familiar with 220 grade sandpaper to abrade epoxy for application of filler, build primer, seal coat etc after 24hrs plus cure time have elapsed.
so i would say you are on the right track but not certain of the abrasion of scotchbrite red for this purpose. |

You need to seriously scuff before using rage on cured epoxy primer. Scothbrite red pads won't do the trick.
Epoxy primer needs to be filler'd and topcoasted within a short window (2-5 days depending on epoxy brand). Once that window closes, you have to do a lot of prep work before you topcoat epoxy.
Putting filler on scuff sanded cured epoxy doesn't make much sense to me. I would sand to bare metal with 36 grit on a DA sander wherever you are going to apply filler, then apply filler, then sand the remaining cured epoxy with 220 followed by 320 before applying high build primer.
Re-read the manufacturers directions SPI has good info online. It iwll tell you what you need to do. If you are still unsure, contact them for more clarification.
Be careful - you really don't want to do this wrong or it will show up in your final paint job. _________________ Wish List:

from SPI website prior to topcoating with your high build primer:
"This epoxy does not need to be sanded if it’s primed over within 7 days. Always prime over the epoxy within 7 days. After 7 days the epoxy should be sanded with 180 and re-coated with epoxy for best adhesion. " _________________ Wish List:

If the filler goes directly on the metal ,there will be no anti-corrosion protection from the primer if it has it.
Unless you need to fill a huge dent ,why not use glazing putty with hardener? _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle. I have the yellow beetle in my town. There is a red one, a green one ......

Correct, SPI forums say to da lightly with 180 grit to take the shine off but not to bare metal and the apply my filler.
