|
|
I thought I would share some build photos and details of my oldest brothers build. He is not big on computers.
The car for most part was finished 7 years ago. Still running strong today. It took him 3-4 years in build
Started life as a 76 Beetle with no power train. His soon picked it up for $300 with title.
sheetmetal front and rear were all scratch built with exception of radiator shell from early Ford. That was the piece he wanted to build around. A little 32 - 34 flavoring of early Ford. original beetle body from A pillar to B pillar retained. visor homemade. roof has large rag opening with canvas cover.
pan and suspension is all original beetle. home made beam suspension pushing out 14" and 2"or so drop. This was done about the time "Tinbeater" was starting to produce nice fabricated beam extensions (for Volksrod) site members.
engine stock for most part.unique is the exhaust which is a dual system plumbed from rear all the way up front and out stacks.
gas tank is an air compressor tank converted. gas is filled from radiator cap of old Ford shell. simulated frame horns were added as well as hairpin links.
there are several airplane influence add-ons.brother is aviation mechanic/inspector/private pilot.
enough rambling. here's some build pics. enjoy. |

Lots of neat little tricks on this. He fabbed the hood himself, didnt he? That was something that I was pondering. The frame horms really changed the look of the beam and the hairpins help as well. Thanks for posting these. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

yes he made the front hood/clip.
correct on the little things. like a lot of folks, collects parts and pieces, then they showup in a project.
steering wheel is an old tractor wheel
Harley Davidson lights are front blinkers
old ammunition casing
old airplane throttle knob used in dash
made brushed aluminum dash like the nose of the Spirit of St Louis
chevy rear steel wheels
39 Ford repop taillights
old car spot light
hand made gun sight made on radiator cap.alignment is on dash/cowl
leather wrapped door tops, comfort for the arms hanging out
RC airplane spinners and props on front hubs
dont recall what else at this moment |

With a little more styling on the upper rear quarter section, that thing could look really close to a roadster coupe. Most the rest looks in scale
Nice! |
