Tomorrow morning I have to help a co-worker install a new set of points on a 1953 International Cub so that he can clear his driveway of a ton of snow. The tractor is a 4 cylinder (6 volt neg ground) and I figure I will take my dwell meter over there to use that to get it to the 47º +/- 3º that I like on my VWs.

Is that a good call? I figure I will start at about 0.016" of point gap to see if that gets us close, although I am not sure that is similar to a VW. I also have no idea on what sort of timing they require.

I don't figure the 6 volt will be an issue as I used a similar dwell meter on my 6 volt VWs.

My total tractor experience has been working on 2 cylinder JDs with magnetos.

Any tractor guys out there?

Very good. I have him off finding some new spark plugs and some new points.

How bad can it go?

Just in time for today's snow...

The Wife was stuck in Boston 2 weeks ago so headed to her parents in Wells for home cooked meals from Mom. She worked her ass off clearing the drives.

These folks have all the manuals you'd need for that tractor, and many others for that matter. Note, IHC/Farmall put the electrical section in the owners manual- go figure. But the cost for all the manuals (owners, parts, service) is reasonable enough just to buy all three at once, imo.

My father inlaw is restoring a farmall cub. He also has a super H and a Super C. They are cool old tractors. I think they are cheaper to build than vw.

I think he gets his parts from a place in the midwest. He is getting a bunch of new / old parts for his.

Here he is taking the Super H out for a spin. There is also video of the super C that he is selling

Cubs are kinda cool little old tractors. I was looking at getting one a few summers ago but someone beat me to it. They have a water cooling system much simpler than our air-cooling: No moving parts in the cooling system except the radiator fan. coolant is circulated via convection.

That and the bottom radiator tank is part of the frame.

AlthoughI am not a IH guy, I really like the cubs. They came in both a high clearance and regualr version and are a nice little tractor that can actually do some real work.

Plus you can move them in a pickup with 4' between the wheel wells.

My buddy doesn't take care of his which is kind of sad.
