I have been looking for around 8 years now for a Single Cab. Not just any SC, it was to be a 1970 for a few reasons, but mostly because a 1970 Westy was the first VW into my life way back in 1970. I plan to restore the truck at some point, but for now I am going to fix any problems and enjoy it

Wow, nice truck!
That thing look like it's in beautiful condition! Get some kick panels and some paint on the hubcaps and you would have one of the best ones out there!
You'll get plenty of people telling you this along the way, but please move the fuel filter out of the engine compartment when you replace all your fuel lines.
You have an insanely original engine compartment; do you know the actual milage? If it's low, I'd bet that's a factory engine.
If you're in it for the long haul, and you really care, take the screwed-in plugged line out the back of the carb and hook it up to the empty nipple on the metal plate next to it. Either do that, or remove and plug the vacuum line going to your intake manifold on the left side. As it sits now, you'll have a vacuum leak under light throttle.
What are your long-term plans for it? (I'm literally drooling over this )

Excellent find! First thing to do is apply waxoil to the chassis and body thoroughly. Be sure to get the heater tube, take off the wrap and treat it for rust inside and out. Keep us updated. _________________ '72 Elm Green Deluxe |

Maybe it's just the photo, but is the gas in your filter really that red rusty color? _________________ '78 Bus 2.0FI

Thanks Robbie. I still can't believe my luck on this one.
I actually have the kicks, but they need some attention with the heat gun and glue. The commercial caps came with it too, but they are too rusty at the moment to put on. Can't wait to bead blast and paint.
The fuel filter I put on so that I can monitor what the fuel coming out looks like. The truck say for 10 years or so, but with new gas made it from Tacoma to home approx 3.5 hours or driving. I will change the location at some point.
Yes I know the engine compartment is crazy original. I have the lines plugged off like that right now for drivability and at some point they will be properly configured. We indeed plugged the manifold, so no leaks. Kept all the original vac lines that are still in surprisingly good shape(in looks anyway).
From what I can tell, this truck seems to have 78,600 miles on it. Drives like it too! Like I say, a rest is in the future. This truck is a keeper for me, I really do like it….and my wife does too, lol!!

Keep up the hunt Tcash, it'll happen! I don't think the single port is original. It actually has a Canadian Reman. engine. According to the son of the original owner, it could have happened when it stayed in NY for a short time. Maybe the best source was Canada. Runs great, and doesn't smoke at all.

Where does one find Waxoil? Thought it was a UK thing. I don't think I want to disturb the tube just yet, maybe in the heat of the summer.

Yeah, thus the fuel filter. When it starts looking more normal I will be happier.
Forgot to include a pic of the TC:

What are the engine numbers? I wonder if they sent it out? Or it was an exchange engine?
Ok that's the money shot. Now I'm jealous. What is the back story? Owned by a little old lady, only drove to church on Sunday?
Happy for you.

Now that's a great looking Singlecab!, Washington plates so I assume it's an import?
I'd clean it up (mechanical fixes, rustproofing, safety, etc...) and roll it as is proudly even with that gouge in the wheel well (loose wheel nuts at one time I assume?, must have been exciting!), that's an awesome truck!!! _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

That specimen is so nice and rare that it is worth doing some extensive documentation. That way the rest of us can see the details to see what it is supposed to look like. Great find!
BTW, how are the seals on the treasure chest door locks? I have the remains of one, and a friend has one in good shape. I am looking into having these reproduced on a 3D printer from my friend's good specimen.
I need to verify part numbers for different years. Mine is a '75 and my friend's is a '69, IIRC.
Anyone interested PM me -- I need to know how many to make. The more that I can get made, the lower the cost per unit. _________________ John

Thanks Tcash.
Here is the engine number, but it does not match the number on the sticker shown previously so I don't know if it was an exchange or what:
As far as I know, the truck was owned by a fellow(machinist by profession) from day one, and I bought it from his son(who never drove it). The truck spent the last ten years or so in storage.

Thanks busdaddy, brought it thru last Monday. I agree with cleaning it up(and fixing/rustproofing/safety) and driving as is. You are correct, original owner forgot to tighten the lugs. In a truck less solid it might have been even more exciting

I would be more than happy to provide any details, photos or otherwise. PM me or contact me thru this thread if you like. I will check the seals. However, I am in need of the treasure chest door pulls. The RHS one is missing unfortunately.
A couple more pics…
Never seen these mats totally intact before
