Yes, but you'll have to use the type 3 only hockey stick.

I've got a 73 super beetle trans in my 65 Notch that I converted to IRS. Been in there for 15 years now. Cool

Just to slightly expand on this. . .

The type3 trans hockey stick has the dimple that the shift coupler set screw tightens down in, on the bottom of the trans, where a type3 has access. A beetle trans hockey stick has this dimple on the top since it has an access cover under the rear seat. If you don't either use the T-3 hockey stick OR drill another dimple in the right place for use in your T-3, you will have a really REALLY hard time connecting your shift rod coupler to the trans.

On my 68, one of the POs drilled a hole in the top of the tunnel and used a type-1 hockey stick using the new hole for access.
