There's also a small modification to the exterior bodywork. It's on the cargo door side. Anyone spot it and have a guess as to what it's for?
Purist will hate me. |
lol... no cutout for the front cab handle on the cargo door? idk i can't tell. nice RHD. what poptop is going in there? |
Cargo door just needs the handle fitting.
It has a (Martin Walker) dormobile poptop. Was originally fitted at the Devon factory from new. The original one was pretty rough, so I have a brand new one to fit. They're not pretty, but being able to stand, with headroom is a bonus. Plus 2 fold out bunks for the kids is great. After 13 years of ownership, and half of them with just the wife and I using it for weekends, I'm looking forward to taking my boys out in it. The little one is 3 and hasn't even seen it before! _________________ MonkeyDubs!

Yea, but it's only the first one that stings so bad. |
Done it a while back when fitting the running gear, brakes etc. also chipped a door frame fitting it last night..
The guy at the shop is a friend. He told me not to worry. Scratches are going to happen, so he's going to have it back to touch up any paint and polish it again after the build. That goes for the underneath as well which is done to the same standard as the top! _________________ MonkeyDubs!

Do you have any pictures of the mounting or technical information for the belt mounts? If you do, would you post them up?
Thanks,
Spitty
The paint and stripes really make the bus pop, it is just the right amount, nice and subtle. Can't wait to see more pictures. |
I'll take some pictures for you. The key is, if you're going to do it, make them strong, which is what Paul did when he made them. My boys will be in the back with belts on, so I want the mountings to hold. _________________ MonkeyDubs!

You and Cat Stevens are right! The first cut is the deepest.
Done it a while back when fitting the running gear, brakes etc. also chipped a door frame fitting it last night.. What you gonna do? Cry? Nah!

Super nice stance!! How was it lowered? |
Simple approach really.
It had a bay beam on it when I purchased it years, so I've ended up with ball joint front ends ever since. Essentially, a 4inch narrowed beam with adjusters and a pair of dropped spindles. The back is straight axled.
I've raised the steering box to accommodate the end height.
It will end up lower. I just want to wait until the engine and interior are in before the final adjustment. I'd say it will be down by another 2", but anything lower than that and it will just become impractical. _________________ MonkeyDubs!

Fitted door tops and pulled the headlamp looms through ( sounds easier than it was on both accounts!!)
Also test fitted a yellow lens headlamp with and without a grill. Think I prefer it without the grill, but not sure yet.

Started wiring the loom. Gulp!
Actually, it's ok, generally. A bit of head scratching going on though! _________________ MonkeyDubs!

I've put harnesses in other equipment for several years, the key is to be methodical and don't skip around. Just begin at the most logical point and steadily move through the harness until the final connection, you'll have it done before you know it.
If you skip around, it's all too easy to mix things up or end up with connections that don't reach with routing issues. |

thanks for the advice. Have started and got to the point of wiring in the speedo. Before I start it, I need to finish off a few earths and consolidate what I've done. Then the really horrendous speedo wiring can start. _________________ MonkeyDubs!

You've gotten a lot done... plumbed, running gear in... lookin' good!
Love the stripes.
IMO... looks better w/o headlight grill.
Looking forward to your progress updates.

thanks Mr E.
I'm still undecided about the guards. It was always an accessory I wanted, but I think they make it look a bit 'busy'. Usually the wife hates stuff like that, but she quite likes them for some reason.
I'm going to fit them for a while and see if they grow on me. If they don't, I'll just take them off. No big deal. _________________ MonkeyDubs!

Nah. It's not pretty. Buses look better without poptops, but not being able to stand up in one is a pain. _________________ MonkeyDubs!

Yes, quite a bit done, but its always slow to be honest...
Fitted all the sound deadening and sound proofing:
Then fitted headliner (with the help of a freind)
Fitted windows
Interior lights and sun visors
I'm preparing to trim the pedastals next and then fit the roof, but I've bben out in the US and pretty busy at work, plus taking the familly on vacation at the end of teh week, so it's been a bit slow generally. _________________ MonkeyDubs!

Its been ages since I posted any updates on here, so I figured I'd put up a few pictures of where I'm at. Basically I didn't do any thing for ages as I got a bit bored by it all. But am back on it now.
Pedestal mats and seat back covers
And mats
Although I forgot to fit the handbrake rubber boot:
Fitted seats (please note these are bay window seats). It's a long story, but rhd walkthru seats are almost impossible to get hold of. Typically a pair got offered to me for next to nothing after we'd done the paint.. They look fine though and have some adjustment which is a bonus.
And fitted the bunks
Next step is to install the new roof cap and canvas. _________________ MonkeyDubs!
