Kinda inbetween what most consider semigloss and gloss.

80% is correct. vw painted everything with 80% gloss.
normal semi-gloss is 70%. trust vw to mess with correct restorations.

To add another data point, the jack that was in my Sept 62 bus has a round head like the top jack and a small base like the bottom one.

Yes because it shows you a pic of the correct jack for your bus. Doghouse, small indent, no triangle etc.

From the first post of this thread, it's the one on top in this photo

Check the classifieds for this jack - they should always be for sale as they are pretty common.

I also added some more details from the middle of this thread to the 1st post in this thread.

Just to be 100% sure (and make things easier for other Newbies like me):

- Is this the correct jack for my '64?
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1531803

- also, can this jack be used in all buses from '64 to '67?

This one doesn' have the triangle, has the small indent, and the "dog house" head.

I went to the swap at the Bugarama yesterday and found some jacks. Armed with this threads info I picked up a 64 jack for 3 bucks! Cool

Ok, i already purchased the jack; however, in most pics i've seen on this post (and on the classifieds) i noticed that most jacks are displayed WITHOUT the arm that attatches to the jack in order to turn the inner bolt and raise the vehicle... i'm assuming i'm gonna have to find one... any tips? Already checked the classifieds and i don't see any.

Question

Those parts are in the tool kit.

My '63 tool kit:

You might have to search on the individual toolkit parts, don't use the word "jack".

Wolfsburg West also sells a repro kit.

I see the hubcap tool, lug nut socket and breaker bar. Is the small socket for spark plugs? What was the side cutting pliers supposed to do? And is there any special uses for the other tools?

Good questions, I am sure of the intended use for all of the tools.

For my '63, here's the list:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The larger socket is for the spark plugs and jack and lug bolts as mentioned

The smaller socket is for ? I can't think of anything specific I would use that for myself on the side of the road. Battery connections maybe?
It says 14mm but I wonder if it's 13mm since most everything is 13mm instead of 14mm in 1963.

The screwdrivers - Carb tuning for sure plus anything else you needed.

The pliers... just anything in general as a sort of universal tool?

Maybe cutting pliers are for the wires and grub screws on things like the shift rod. I would like to see a factory pic of the pliers in use, the Germans must have had a very good reason for putting them in the kit. Cool

Guys,

Where is the proper storage location for the jack on a 67 walkthrough? It doesn't fit underneath the driver's seat. Thanks.
