Is there a best price place to get these? I googled and the prices are all within $10-15 bucks of each other for the 2500. For some reason I was thinking they were cheaper than they are. I was seeing close to $300. Then add brackets. I thnbk most sites offer free shipping.
Did they go up or something?
I was leaning toward one of the fiammas but I don't like 35 or 45 for various reasons including cost. |

Thanks, I guess I should have looked one page back where two others just said the same thing. $200-250 is what I was remembering but that must have been the older model that didn't extend out as far. $246 seems like a great price.
Funny, I was looking at the Autoanything site around Black Friday and they only had the small ones. |

Go Westy says their brackets don't work with '80 and some '81-'84 Vanagons due to the difference in the rain gutters. Anyone run into the problem of their gutters being the old style? If so how did you mount your ARB? Thanks. _________________ _________________________________

I have an '84 - seemed to work for me, but YMMV, of course. _________________ Rich |

Hate to break the News but after seeing the 20% off Thing-a-ma-gig I almost squeezed the trigger on this item, but found that the 20% off doesn't apply to ARB products..
Regardless still a good buy though, especially with the free shipping. _________________ Fast Cars, and Slow Women Makes me DrooL. |

I put it in my cart and entered the promo code and it took it. It showed the price as $231.80. I came soooo close to pulling the trigger, but I have way more important things I need to get done to the van before I can start dropping coin on luxuries. _________________ Going to where the grass is bluer...

WoW. Cool move.. I didn't try to put it in my cart and apply the discount.
I just read the discount disclaimer and ARB was one of the suppliers that the 20% discount didn't apply to..
Would like to know if anyone actually pulled this purchase off using the 20% discount _________________ Fast Cars, and Slow Women Makes me DrooL. |

It will only charge you what it calculates. The worse they can do is cancel the order prior to shipping. Considering everyone was getting the 15% discount last month, I find it highly probable that it would go through.
If you really want to be on the up and up, give them a call. Perhaps the exclusion is more for custom 4x4 ARB products.
If only I did not have so much self control..... _________________ Going to where the grass is bluer...

Has anyone had issues with the Gowesty Fiamma bracket interfering with the poptop? I feel like an idiot here, but I just can't get the thing to sit such that there isn't a problem. I did cut off the excess threads flush with the nut, but I still need more clearance. Any ideas before I try to find a way to bend these things?

I have the same issue with mine. As i am pulling my van apart for paint, i am going to try and find hardware to reverse the mounting somehow. Nut on inside of awning rail and head of the bolt on the outside of the bracket. _________________ 85 Westy Weekender with a Bostig Conversion. |

Move your awning mounts so they don't sit right under the bracket mounts |
Not sure how this would help- the brackets don't interfere with the towers, just the top itself and especially the lip of the seal. _________________ 1986 Westy Weekender

Mount the awning at the top of the bracket use spacers for the bottom bolt, you won't have any problems. The higher you mount it the further the bolts end up being from interfering with the pop top. _________________ 84 Westfalia, now with Bostig Zetec 2.0L, Manual Transmission

I'm about to install my 2500 ARB awning using GW's brackets. I've drilled three holes in each bracket. I should be installing the brackets on the van first before installing the ARB awning to the brackets, correct? |

I, too had a problem with the GW brackets and the awning mount hardware interfering with the poptop seal.
I solved the problem by doing the following:
1. replace the awning mounting bolts (M6 with large conventional hex heads) with a M6 button head bolt of very precise length for this application:
2. swap the fastener positions so that the lower profile button head bolt is on the outside of the ARB awning channel, and the nylon insert M6 nut is on the inside of the ARB awning channel. The nut in the channel is captive, so it's easy to tighten.
3. increase the total number of fasteners per GW bracket to four, just in case the button head bolts are somehow less sturdy than conventional hex head bolts.
This worked for me.

Nirav--with the updated fastener system I described above (all obtained at Breed's hardware) I had to measure and assemble on the ground, and then bolt the whole thing up to the van as the last step.

GoWesty brackets did not work on my 82. I could not figure out a way to modify them to work -- so I sent them back. Has anyone figured out a way to mount the ARB awning when GoWesty brackets don't fit your gutters?
I have an ARB awning sitting in the garage that wants to be mounted! _________________ 1982 Diesel Vanagon Camper
