I was rear ended a month ago and need to replace my rear bumper.
Today, I bought these OEM fiberglass bumpers from a 91 Syncro. What's it take to retrofit these guys onto my 83.5 Westy? |

I did the same on a 1987 but I am not sure if it applies to a 1983.
The bumper brackets that bolts to the frame are different - they have an extra tab for support at the bottom. That's the easy part as long as you got those.
Then on each side there is a small bracket that attaches the bumper to the inner fender. those goes on the wrap around portion of the bumper. An image would help a lot here...
My 1987 had the lip already with the whole to attach the bracket but I am not sure if your 1983 has. You need those to line up the side portion of the bumper with the body. |

Would you by any chance be able to shoot a picture of your setup? Pics from underneath would be greatly appreciated. |

I am assuming you did not get the bumper brackets with the bumpers? I am 99% sure the brackets are interchangeable between years using the same attachment points to the unibody frame rail. _________________ ☮️ |

I got the bumper supports for the rear(Parts 1 & 10) but not for the front. Should I be good to go?

The rear should go on easy. Having a hard time remembering the front bumper attachment for both style bumpers. _________________ ☮️ |

sorry I am in Texas for work right now but this diagram shows it even better.
Parts 11 and 14 typically are 'left out' by sellers - I never see them with I see those bumpers for sale...
you need those (or make something similar).
You also need the bracket number "1" but those are easier to find Here is a set for cheap:

THe number 10 should come with your bumper although last time I bought one it was missing on one side and it took me a while to find a replacement. BusDepot has some if you need it. |

Just finished the installation yesterday. It was a piece of cake. Pretty much bolt on except there needs to be holes drilled for the left and right bracket mounts for both the front and back. |
