Will a spring from a 1958 lid fit and work on a 1957 lid??

You can access the type 1 parts manual here thru the "Upcoming" button at top right now. HUGE amount of info that you should wander thru now and then. Will tell you that you are missing parts you did not know existed, and you really need.

For the chassi number list to sort out what month/year to what month/year, just hover your mouse cursor over the "Technical" button at upper right of this website. Then left click on the "VIN / Chassis Numbers" in the list, first webpage pops up is for the type 2, to get to the type 1 list the link is at the top there.
