Just left Sears. After reading this post, I ordered a set of 205/75r15 Guardsman LT tires. While they were mounting them, I noticed they had a "P" on them. Long story short, the Guardsman LT tires are NOT Light Truck tire rated. The "LT" is part of the tire name, not the tire rating. They are Passenger rated tire with 2 ply side walls.
A little deceptive, and disappointing. So now I'm going home with my old tires. Time to do more calling around. I can't find the Nexens or Vancos around here.
Please keep the suggestions coming for those of use searching for tires.
Thanks,
Andrew |

After calling 4 different local tire shops and having no luck with them finding anything, I went to tires-easy.com.
The still have the SV820's in stock. I placed the order on Tuesday, and tires showed up on Thursday! Cost was $100 each plus $70 shipping for 5.
The date code is 4713, so end of 2013.
Can't wait to try them out... |

I just ordered 4 Continental Vanco 4 season 195 70 15 tires from Discount tires. They matched Walmart and the total for 4 of them mounted is $627. |
That is a really good price Red, I'm paying $176 each for Vanco four season 195/70R15 6 ply tires, mounted, they dump the old tires. The guy at the tire store said they are getting harder to find, his supplier only carries one set at a time.
They are great for all the back road/ off road driving I do here in Vt.
This is my second set, they have gone up $20 ea. in 3 years.... _________________ Tom

I run American prospector tires on the rear 205 75 15 and rated at 1890lbs. Front has 1580lbs rating. So I thought I would upgrade the fronts to heavier payload. Guessing the 195s are shorter also. They quit making the americanprospector tires in 2010. Just checked and walmart has those vancos in stock or so it says.........online. So Im gonna guess that when it says boat or trailer tire, that doesn't make a difference? Called locally and when I try to get into a good tire in 6ply they say 205 75 6ply is a trailer tire and you wouldn't put that on a vehicle but they wont say why.
All I want is a tire 205 75 15 that's rated at or better than 1890lbs. Might have to just say F it and go get a trailer tire to get that.
Found nexen sv820 data.http://www.nexentireusa.com/cms_files/original/SV820SV820A_Spec_Sheet1.pdf
Thinking of ordering 2 of these but don't know if I should get 2 and run the prospectors on the back or just get all 4.
This just in: Went out to check my rear prospector tires. I need replacement eyeballs in L380. Rear tires as noted:1608lbs!!! _________________ Waiting for santa to drop off funky green. I can wish can't I????

When I was checking out "C" and "D" rated tires a while back I had a tire shop or two explain that "trailer tires" aren't designed to make sharp turns like normal tires (think having to make a sudden evasive turn). They are designed to carry loads in pretty much straight line and gently arcing turns. That is why many have warnings on the tire "trailer tire only" or "trailer use only". The tire shop personnel warned me against their use as a Bus tire.
That was my experience, and it seems logical.

Thanks bill, yeah just got on a chat window and they said the same thing. The current debate Im having is what tire to get now. I don't like the jerkiness in 1st gear over bumps and I don't like the freeway automatic lane change with 1580lbs tires up front. Anyone care to venture a guess as to how the nexens hold up/handling/mileage? _________________ Waiting for santa to drop off funky green. I can wish can't I???? |

That is a passenger rated tire so you would have to reduce the load rating by about 10% to get a true load capacity vs. a LT rated tire and the same PSI. Here's a good explanation:
Quote: |
P vs. LT
Although originally developed for cars, most vans, pickups and SUVs are used primarily to carry passengers and P-metric tires are typically lighter, with lower rolling resistance and less aggressive tread designs than typical LT-metric tires.
The combination of better ride, greater fuel efficiency and less noise has resulted in P-metric tires being used extensively for light truck applications. However, vans, pickup trucks and SUVs typically have a higher center of gravity and greater probability of being overloaded than passenger cars.
In order to accommodate this, vehicle engineers are required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards to specify P-metric sized tires rated to carry 10% more weight than would be required if they were used on a passenger car. This is the equivalent of dividing the tire’s sidewall branded load capacity by 1.10. For example, a P265/75R16 114S tire has a maximum load rating of 2,601 lbs. at 35 psi. However, when this tire is installed on a light truck, the load rating is reduced by a factor of 1.10 to 2,365 lbs. at 35 psi. |
Bus Depot has even more detail if your interested:

Thanks for the info, will probably pass on the PepBoys tires. Was going to order the nexens but they're not available today on tire easy . These are on here too and are fairly cheap. Anybody have experience with them? |

That is a euro tire, see it is spelled tyre? I would guess you can't get that tire here, but if you can it looks correct I think. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. CB 044 heads, AutoCraft rockers, chromoly push rods

It doesn't say if they are the Vanco 4 season tires or other ones. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. CB 044 heads, AutoCraft rockers, chromoly push rods

When i search by size the continental tires that come up are the ones from the other link and these, which say 4 season. So i am assuming the other ones are different. Just not sure if they are teh same as in the pic |

The ones in the pics on the bus are Vanco 8's, not sure if they still make them. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. CB 044 heads, AutoCraft rockers, chromoly push rods
