"I have aslo managed to source some excellent wide mouth ram pipes to suit"

Ed- Cool air horns! Where did they come from? Do you have a link? They've got a great entry radius. I'm having height issues with some 48IDF's going in my plastic speedster. How tall are they?

Bolt on trumpet to suit 45/48s, 25mm long, extras wide Part No - 45/25F

sourced from http://www.dellorto.co.uk/

http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/products.asp?CategoryID=8&PartsectionID=41

they have an extensive range including full radius trumpets

they are also on ebay under:

the quality is superb, best I have come across and a mile better than the standard weber supplied ones.

Have you given any thought to putting it into production. As i said , i'm sure there is a market for such an item. I would certainly be in,because i was seriously considering getting the CSP one, but when i first looked into it ,before the Canadian dollar was so strong, by the time it would have gotten to my door, it would have topped $1200 ! I'm sure if you could sell it for less than $500 USD it would be worth it. Anyways, just something to mull over....

thanks for the feedback Very Happy , I will certainly give it some thought. Needs some testing first and sorting out the moulding process, but in theory I don't see why it couldn't be made for that sort of cost, especially if standard bases can be used.

This is my version of a cold air induction system. If you go to Bernie Bergmann's website you will see something similar on his porsche style VW engines.I had to buy different bonnets in order to fit in front of the VW fan shroud. This setup was meant to sit in back of the Porsche fan shroud like in his pics.I purchased the carb turbo bonnets with the snouts coming off the top from cb performace, the 2" by 2 1/4" black reducing adapters to fit on the snouts of the bonnets which were found searching the net and the aluminum 2" fresh air hose from CIP.The central filter came from Bernie Bergmann. The total cost of these parts were around 300.00.I guess that is better than 1200.00 for the csp air box..You can see in the pic below how I assembled it.

Ummm... the filter set up is in the engine bay, that would be hot air sucking into the carbs.

unless I'm missing a air hose feeding cold air from outside the engine compartment.

this one will pull air from both the stock Type 3 body inlet and a scoop under the body. Not as fancy as the carbon fiber unit posted previously mind you.
Still a work in progress.

If you look at the stock set up,it does the same as My system and the CSP air box. They all draw air from inside the engine bay but not that much as the heat is dissapated below the engine tin and out in the area under the vehicle. On the Thing or type 1 this is not an issue.Bernie Bergmann sells 10,000 dollar engines and up with the same filter I am using with the same principle. It works! The type 3 is an entirely different engine bay.

Raby tested a central filter and the CB end pressure covers and lost like 25 horsepower. They are very restrictive unless pressurized.

I read an article that Raby tested the CSP air box and found it satisfactory in the 1000k to 6000k power range providing you remove the two air intake tubes. He found the intake tubes to be restrictive. If you notice in the pics of the CSP air box the air intake are set towards the back of the shroud. If you didn't notice there is a strong pull of air by the fan in this area so how could the intakes grab some of this air to provide the carbs what they need ? Raby said there is Good torque down low but you lose a COUPLE HP above the 4000k mark.If you look at the pressure cover system with the large air filter there is to me no huge difference. The CSP have pressure cover bonnets with a 2" or so opening and to me are not any different than CB's . Wouldn't CSP's have to be pressurized also?CSP K&n filter 10" BY 1" enclosed in the box.The filter I have is 5" in dia. by 14" which is open to grab as much air as it can which I believe would be less restrictive. Can anyone with a good insight into these systems tell where the restriction would be in my system compared to CSP's.Look at the pic.I am not knocking CSP's products as I have bought a couple items from them and they are top of the line for sure but the difference in these two systems has me doubting if one works better than the other.

I suspect the airboxes fixed on he carbs, which are taller and wider on the CSP than the CB, flow better and get better cylinder-to-cylinder balance in filling with the CSP. I have no evidence to back this hunch, judging from looks alone.

Could anyone tell me where I could get an air box like this?

You can see the box more clear in the last few pictures.

That looks like a painted version of CSP's box.
