$300/pair from Outfront Motorsports in California
http://www.outfrontmotorsports.com/
The part isn't listed on web site you need to call. They sell both versions which either point toward the transmission or towards the timing chain cover. For Vanagons we need the ones that point toward the trans or forward. This is counter intuitive to me and ordered the wrong ones initially. Exhaust starts out going forward and then bends around to go out back to the muffler. _________________ I've got the vanagon fever |

It seems the mount sold by Raptor is designed for the 3.0 line of boxer engines. Seth at East Coast Swappers (860) 758-7644 has already blazed this trail and documented the required changes with photos!

Hello all,
There have been some major milestones past in this project:
DONE 3.6R fully mounted
DONE complete RMW stainless coolant lines & burp tank/New radiator
DONE 5-speed mated and mounted
DONE super charged mounted
each step had its own struggles. RMW engine mount and Dave Clymer transmission mount were not bolt on easy. This is because Daves mount was made for the Small Car mount. The RMW engine carrier could have been modified to allow the engine to move forward a 1/2". Eion chose to modify the trans mount so it would reach about a 1/2" back. This allows front trans mount bushing not to be under stress. One of the welded in frame nuts broke so that needed repair.
Super charger figment required notching the left rear frame rail and cutting out some inner fender sheet metal. The frame got boxed and welded and the fender well will be reconfigured to give the engine bay more room and the left rear inner fender toward the back will have slightly less room with no ill effects.
Next is sizing the IC and associated radiator. _________________ I've got the vanagon fever

|
|
My original purchase from frozen boost is not even close. The radiator and IC are way too big. Is there a boosting expert out there that can help me get the smallest size IC that will fit in engine bay and still do its job adequately. I was looking at the barrel style
https://www.frozenboost.com/air_water-ic/
Looks like they come in 4"x6", 4"x8", or
4"x10" size. Suggestions?
Also what radiator? I was hoping to get away with this one:
http://www.frozenboost.com/water-to-air-heat-exchanger/engine-oil-cooler-p-1100.html
And mount it in the euro-sized license plate area. I was hoping with some spacers to move the bumper out an inch or two in front and cutting a perfect 11.5"x4.25" hole for the 2" thick radiator into the bumper skin. Will the heat exchanger linked above do the job??? _________________ I've got the vanagon fever |

Eric, You are my first stop! Any interest in doing the exhaust? All I have is the collectors and I want to do the 911 muffler again like you did for my 2.5 conversion. I really like how your exhaust retains the cat, O2 sensors, and is easy to take apart for maintenance! _________________ I've got the vanagon fever |

I don't think you have space for the Carrera muff with the sixer. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

The 3.6 ain't no 2.5 and the mounting due to transmission of choice eliminates chances of cleanly mounting a large diameter muffler across the rear....unless you are fine with removing the rear valance and it hanging past rear bumper.....ugly
I found a beautiful solution for a dual exhaust setup from a European fabricator that built the system for an earlier H6.
Big dollars...about $4500USD + shipping and duties.
CATs would need to be added depending upon what State you live in. |

Roger that guys. Any photos of this dream $4500 system? That is about 4x the cost I was budgeting. Is it stainless?
99% sure I'm going with:
http://www.j-rodandcustom.com/J-Rod_%26_Custom/home.html for fabrication
Then coating at:
http://swaintech.com/
Based on Christopher at T3 recommendation and experience since my van is a state away in Seattle at Eions. I trust Christopher's knowledge and experience. _________________ I've got the vanagon fever |

Yup stainless.
They build Porsche exhaust systems.
Sounds like you have a plan and tight budget. |

Can I recommend Tom Face -- http://tomface.com/ -- he runs Subie in his off road stuff and makes all kinds custom headers from street to race from 4 to 12 cylinders
He did the custom turbo intake and header for my VW powered Fiat that you see

He uses regular steel then get them Jet-hot coated and last forever!!! _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

I thought $1100 was reasonable to make such a small exhaust system especially since I have the collectors already...I'm unsure what coating costs though so maybe I'm off base.
Dylan, if I live in my Carat for a few months and keep my house on Air B&B I might be able to swing your solution. I've been doing this while out of the country and its working out quite well. I have s 24 hour fitness membership so I can shower there. Can you give us a link to this dream stainless system?
I'll also talk with Tom Face and get a quote from him for comparison. I appreciate the help everyone! _________________ I've got the vanagon fever |

Sometimes I feel like folks are participating in a forum discussion for purposes other than what it is intended for so I thought I would post the definition:

Well, thanks for making it more clear for vendors.
Most who make high quality stuff are very hesitant to have pictures posted.
Many will just take the image and shop every last fabber around to find the lowest price and bypass the original completely.
When vendors see other parts being cut up and augmented, without a real plan...most will bow out...especially when remarks about cost and fitment are made after the fact. |

Firstly, I wonder how many of the 14,493 posts have contained information to be shared vs. opinions, judgements, bragging, and shameless self promotion?
Secondly I asked for a link to the mystery European fabricator to see if they could even do such work with out the vehicle. I have a very good guess as to who it is (CLAER) so I'll just email them myself.
http://www.claer-automobile.de/startseiten/T-3-main.htm
Thirdly if I purchase a kit that is suppose to be a bolt on application (Raptor Supercharger) and it is far from it I'm going to post as such along with the solution so future buyers know what they are getting into and can readily solve the problem with the SHARED INFORMATION provided on the FORUM. _________________ I've got the vanagon fever
