Broken dimmer switch wire

The wire from my headlight switch to my dimmer switch broke about 8 inches from the headlight switch (very brittle). While I'm waiting to make a fix, is it best to disconnect it from the headlight switch?

YES!
Unfused part of the wiring, if shorts out could fry wiring harness right back to the starter....

Hopefully you can solder and heat shrink in the repair wire.
