Hey fellow collectors of all things cool,

Well I have finally purchased yet another car that was local to me that I knew about since 1993. I still remember the day the previous owner drove the car into a VW show my friends and I were putting on. I stopped dead in my tracks. Before me was a unrestored 67 vert with dealer installed A/C from New Mexico. I looked over the car and found no evidence of rust or collision damage. I informed the owner that if he ever sold the car, I would appreciate it if he called me. Well he did last month. I couldn't get there fast enough...;0)

Here's a few pics. I will be continuing this thread once I get started on the car. I will do the same thing as I just did with my 55 Bug. Simple mechanical refresh and make sure it's ready for road trips. Now all I have to do is get rid of all this snow so I can drive it.....lol

Yes, that is the real New Mexico plate it had when the previous owner drove it in that state.

Perfect door gaps, tight hood lines and a decklid that is pure gold. What a find.

Yes, that is a dealer installed air conditioner. Belt is off and the system is probably dry and in need of a recharge. We don't get 100 degree summers here so will not bother getting it operational.

Thanks for the positive vibes.

Oh, and I corrected the A/C to dealer installed. Thanks for the heads up Volkswagnut.

Nice car Terry! Post up a pic of the engine. I have a customer with a '66 that had dealer installed A/C from Texas and he wants to hook it back up in the future.

She's a beauty for sure!! Post some more pictures as mentioned. Engine photo's, more interior pics, under the front hood, etc..

You're not kidding about the 67 vert engine lid. I paid $650 for mine a couple of years ago and it needs looks of work. It's on my 67 sedan due to needing more air into the engine compartment here in Phoenix during the summer.

Really cool VW.

A modern AC compressor (ICE AC or Gilmore) will make it perform way better, and use less hp, than the stock compressor even when it was new, and would get you to R134a.

True - the compressor would not be year-correct.

That is a tremendous and rare VW !!! Really cool !!!

Will get engine pics soon Greg.

Odometer says 34,000 miles. Previous owner says it's real but has no docs. I say it's not really an issue. I bought this car for what it is.

Will not hook up A/C again but might just leave it on for conversation. Will drive the car as is for this summer and then pull all the powertrain for rebuild over next winter.

Oh, and when it rains....it pours....going to look at a 56 ragtop with 40,000 original documented miles. Back with red interior. Can't wait......

Then it's not really a "67 VW with A/C"-still a very nice car though!

Chicagovw, I laughed out loud when I read your post.

I guess my car isn't a convertible either.....because the top is up :-)

Here's the pics of the engine and A/C system. I guess York made more than just heat pumps back in the day.

As I indicated earlier, the previous owner removed the belt from the pump as it was not being used. He advised that the fan is working but not the cool air.

The engine will be removed for cleaning. Not sure if I will remove the pump and brackets or just leave them on. I will not be getting the A/C system recharged until I can do a leak down test on all the lines.

I'm sure this car will weigh 100 lbs less once I have removed it....;0)

If I remove the system I will be looking for an decklid rain tray. If anyone has one, please PM me the details/cost.

Overall shot of engine showing trimmed rain tray.

Engine comp shot showing no belt and left side warm air hose hole. I wonder why they never plugged it?

Pulley for A/C pump belt - spins freely and looks good to go

Bracket holding pump pulley system.

Hey....the coil is on the wrong side....;-)

Sniff.....hope I can find a nice rain tray to put on if I decide to remove pump.

The engine looks very original though a couple of things have been changed. It has the wrong generator. It should be the plug in wire style. You can see they changed the generator plug in wire ends when they changed the generator. The coil has also been changed. It appears to have the correct Solex 30-1 carb and original style Pierburg fuel pump.

Overall, she's a beauty.. I was able to track down the right generator here on The Samba classifieds. You might look for your rain tray here or post a WTB add. I personally don't run the ran trays on my 67 or 69 vert engine lids. I want as much air going into the engine compartment as possible.

Hey Terry, I'm thrilled for you to find such a needle in the haystack... and have the patience to wait over 20 years for it! I bet it'll take you longer to remove the engine than on your dual-carbed hot engine...

Yes indeed, Roland, yes indeed.....;0)

That is why the motor will stay for this summer. I will simply service the car and drive it.

I do have a preference with motors that have dual carbs though.....lol
