i found a NOS judson Magneto..i am still messing with my judson super charger...so far i can get the car to start but it seems very hard starting ...it may be the idle circuit on the rebuilt carb is not working..

from what i gather this is a 6 volt coil? is this is why they are asking for you to put a resistor before it.. ? am i better off sticking to my current coil?

i have a 12v 57 car... i have converted everything including the flywheel and the starter.

my question is..if i remove by (blue 12v bosh coil) and put in this judson one , Will i need a resistor? what kind? where do i find one?

thanks
Lemon

Judson Magnetos are the same for 6v or 12v...for the 12v a resistor is required:

The blue coil will work just as well...depends if you prefer the look of the Judson. Not sure of the spec on the modern equivalent ballast resistor listed in the instructions but I'm sure a current 12v Judson Magneto user will chime in.

The Ballast number given by Judson is obsolete, but your local auto electrics shop should be able to cross reference it.

I went to pep boys they did not have it but napa found something that the same ohm'age.....now it's the relay part ..it says to use a six volt relay..I wonder why? Does anybody know to hook the relay .. the diagram on the original judson magneto is not to detailed....the Judson instruction is kinda strange..to say the least..

I had a problem recently when fitting a judson. I also had problems starting, thinking all the time it was the judson. After some time it turned out to be the starter motor bush badly worn. When I replaced this the car started first time & the judson worked fine without problems. I also have a magneto fitted

Can anyone tell me what ohms the resistor is.
I can't find the details on the delco resistor. I'm running 12 volt but wish to run the judson coil so any info would be great.

ok had a bit of luck with searching and found some more info. Not 100% its correct.

•Group Number: 2.173 - Resistor, Ignition Coil
•Part Number: 1957154 - Primary (Blue Stripe) (1.8 OHMS)
•Delco Remy Number: D-1110
