|

Hi,
I need help identifying the following part, it looks like some kind of fuse terminal that hangs down by the fan shroud by the battery. It looks like the wires feed into the generator although hard to tell.
Its the small black box I'm looking at.
A couple of the connections are broken and I'm hoping it's the reason my car won't start.
Any help ipwould be greatly appreciated as its driving me nuts.
Thanks
Grant

Thanks but I'm trying to ID the part, someone on another forum suggested it may be a suppressor for an old AM radio.
The starter motor works, turns over the engine, ive checked the spark plugs, put in a new distributor cap and rotar arm. The fuel seems to be getting to carb.
The car has started although the winter and ticked over just fine, but now turns over but doesn't fire.
Running out of ideas.

Hello,
Its a 1960 KG originally export to South Africa.
I've looked at the wiring diagram and I cant see anything that looks like this terminal, it maybe a red herring and not related to my problem but I wanted to understand what it was so I could discount it.
Thanks,

It looks like a plug for trailer lights to me. my grandfather rigged up lights for his beetle years ago, but I dont see that as useful on a ghia. LOL do you happen to have a tow package?

OK had some time to look at the wiring, and there has been some kind of Voodoo in the past, the whole thing makes no sense to me, and doesn't resemble the wiring diagram. The wiring to the coil went through the relay terminal and has come loose hence no spark. I think I'm going to have to unravel it and try to do a limited rewire.

OK after spending a couple of days trawling the internet, I believe its an adaptation of a Hard Start relay.
The relay switching the power to the coil, Distributor etc using a wire run from the ignition switch.
The relay looks knackered, any ideas where I can get another, or if there is a modern alternative I can use - I'm in the UK.
If anybody has one wired any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 1960 KG, with original 1200 engine but looks to have a later regulator.
Thanks for your help,
