Looks good, Do you have any better pics of the back of the cab area? I'm building something similar. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

Thank you sir! Six foot, I'll take some pics of the cab tonight for you. Welding in floor pans tonight and finishing up the dash. I'm trying to have it somewhat finished at least as a rolling car and painted) for a Father's Day car show. Maybe not realistic...we'll see! I may have to show it as a trailer queen project. |

Hi Six Foot - Some old shots of the rear of the cab. Framed in and sheeted at the back. I'm fabbing an upholstered panel for behind the seat. The rockers are actually made from 2X2 - really rigid. I gusseted it to keep things from moving around and the doors closing perfectly. Pics of the rough work - I added the pipe as well, welded from the framing at the rear of the cab to the rockers. The running boards are welded to the rockers.

The split dash is getting there. I have a bit more work to do on it though.

I've been working on the body work and getting a bit closer every day. This week I did a few more mods that I couldn't live without.
First off, I backdated the area below the windshield. Here's what it used to look like (this is a shot of my '65 - I didn't take a pic of this area on the '69 body that I'm working on, but you get the idea.
I filled the hole for the washer sprayer, removed the nubs for the wipers, and then cut a piece and welded it in to fill that ugly dip area that VW added from 65 and up. I am going for an earlier look. Here's a shot of the finished product.

I did some more body work on the dash as well. It's pretty much ready for paint and looks much better with the smoothed, backdated cowl area.
I also cut the raised part off of the hood that goes under the hood emblem and welded in a new piece of metal to smooth this out. Looks just like a 4 tab hood now. I'll post a pic of that tomorrow. |

Awesome work. That would look really cool with a front lid some thing like this.

That's a nice looking rig - especially the wood. Not sure about those fenders with that particular hood. I'd go with something a little less bug-like - maybe the wide ZZ Top Eliminator style fenders? |

Test fit of the speedo and trying on some colour. Going with a flat military grey.

New pans are in. I decided to run the swing axle. This pan is a '58, but I'm running a later model tranny from a Ghia. I had to change out the front trans mount to make it work. Pan now stripped down to rebuild the front end and paint everything flat grey.

Thanks bud! The pan is almost finished. My buddy is wrenching on the pan - should have it back to mount the body early next week. Also ordered a new windshield today and did some finishing touches on a custom bumper I made.

Made this hood ornament. It has a kdf flavour without copying the thing (I know you can buy repop emblems but I wanted to make something).

Cool project..
Nice to see you put your own spin on things instead of making a 100% copy.

It's been awhile since I've posted, but I have been making progress. It's now together. I still have to install wiring, a windshield and a few other things. Here is a shot of the rear bumper I made (Car is covered in dust from the shop). I picked up the tail lights at a swap meet - not sure what they are (maybe 1920's Ford?)

Duckboard floors, carpet and an old splitty steering wheel. The shifter will be changed to an older one. The seats are borrowed from my '65 bug until I can upholster some others in a military style.

A shot from the side. I'll change out that ugly front wheel later. I need better tires as well. I'd like to find a military (ish) tire to fit under this thing, although it doesn't have a lift. Might be a challenge (suggestions?)
