I think I'm the one that's "envious", and I don't even have a bug anymore. Those are cool as hell. Very utilitarian; just like a bug. |

Does it fit behind the back seat or under the hood? _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

I've always assummed that it fit under the hood, But i havent ever tried. All my cars have the earlier fuel tanks. So i dont think it will fit like intended. I picked it up at a Garage sale several years ago. |

Funny, I just stumbled on this post. Cascade Plastics was a one-person company, my father. He was an engineer at Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane and invented Beetle Bags and sold them on the side. He never sold very many, but I agree they were pretty cool. We used to have the molds laying around but I'm not sure what happened to them.
The fit under the hood perfectly in the early model VWs, about pre-68 I think.
I do have some brochures, though. It's been a few years since the original post, but if you're still interested leave me a message with your email and I'll send you a scan. |

To those who requested brochures, I'm really sorry; I only have one.
Here's the outside:
Here's the inside:
Here's a (faded!) picture of our family car with the bags. You can see that the prototypes had a brass nameplate:
Here's a closeup of the nameplate:
Finally here's a link to the patent:

Thanks for being interested in this piece of our family history! If there are any questions I can answer please let me know. |

Those are neat. Amazing, too, that we would actually get a visit from the family they produced them, and get the background on the cases. If had some, I would be itching to reproduce a high res copy of that brochure!! _________________ Plate of shrimp |
