Sounds like oil on the clutch disk. It could be your mounts, but if you just replaced them they are probably ok. Check your mounts with a floor jack. Put your bug on jackstands and then climb under with your floor jack and start jacking the tranny up. Watch the mounts. If they move too much they need to be replaced. As for the tranny popping out of gear-it may be from the shaking-but who knows.
Good luck, Rob

Better to pay and have someone stand behind it than do it yourself and fuck it up!
Hey 56 no hard feelings right? is this in your 56? Do you still have the crashbox tranny? those are not hard to break and you are running a much more powerful motor than was originally intended.. if it is not the 56 then disregard my comment

56OVAL,
Take a look at the tranny. If it looks like it could split in half lengthwise, it is a crashbox tranny. It also doesn't have a synchronized first gear(you have stop to shift into first). If you want to replace it, you need a good early sixties tranny and a type2 nosecone. -Rob
P.S. -I also have a 56 and 7-14 is my birthday.

Woa. Wierd.

56 Oval, did it always jerk when taking off in gear? Have you checked your 'bowden' tube yet?

When i forst bought the car it would pop out of gear but not shake so i replaced the mounts and the nose cone and has been running fine for about a year now. Now it just shakes and only pops out of gear if it shakes. If i dont want it to shake i let go of the clutch all the way real slowly and then apply the accel and its fine. Its just when i try to let go of one and apply the other at the same time that it shakes and ofcourse makes it pop out. When i first got the car and did all of the maintenance and fixed the tranny, the mech. told me that i would be needing a new clutch soon(a year ago)..so im almost sure its the clutch..
