I have a 56 hardtop with later model swingaxle and 1600sp. Some way, some how my car worked for 3 months (since i bought it from previous owner), without a collar on the pressure plate. It was a earlier throw-out bearing and later style pressure plate without a collar. When i pressed on the clutch pedal i got a hi pitched screeching noise. I replaced the pressure plate with the right type and it fixed it, but then my tranny started moaning reeeallly bad at higer rpms, so im getting ready to replace it with a 3.88 ring & pinion swingaxle from KCR.

Your clutch might be slipping?? It felt like i was only half way in gear or something because i could only go half the speed of the gear. Like id have to shift to next gear because rpms were telling me to like 5 or 10 miles before the shift marks i had used on the speedo for those 3 months...

But now im doing total renovation: heater channels, floor pans, interior, and 1776cc..

see you in december Smile
