I'm planning to tour Switzerland, Austria and Northern Italy for a month beginning June 2, 2015. I'll be renting a camper for the trip. A company called "Ideamerge" rents VW Californias (diesels) for about $3800 a month. Before I commit I'm wondering if there may be someone from Switzerland (near Geneva or Lausanne) on this forum who'd be interested in renting their private rig for a month (?).

Thanks for any replies.

i can't actually find any exact details on their website, i hope it is a fully equipped camper and not just a dayvan..............

i never heard of them but i know of plenty other rental companies in switzerland who will screw every last cent they can out of you.

good luck.

i doubt if you'll find anyone private who'll rent their camper to a complete stranger.

It's a full-on camper. Rates from other vendors are about the same. The rigs are no older than two years.

yep, prices for the current generation are pretty much equal everywhere.
and actually considering what they cost to buy probably not unreasonable since i doubt very much they can find so many customers for them. Wink

there's quite a few outfits renting older VW's in switzerland as well now.
one guy i know has a small print clause that if the engine blows up on the 35 year old bus then the "customer" is liable for 80% of the price of a new one. Laughing

call by if you happen to get near fribourg. Idea

Thanks. Fribourg is a nice town. I lived near Lausanne as a teen and got to know the region very well. Lucky you!

assuming that your avatar photo is not very recent ,you will probably see a LOT of changes in the region.
the population of the country has more than doubled since i first came here.

but there's still a lot of nice corners not everybody gets to. Wink

Thanks oorwullie. I shot him an email asking if he could knock the price down as I won't be putting much mileage on his rig. My Swiss German isn't so hot so I used Google to translate (always risky).

i love the concept , but telling a swiss that he's too expensive don't usually meet with much approval............ Laughing

in the unlikely event of him agreeing, get him to send me a copy of the small print as well.

i speak the lingo. Wink
