Where on the case is the letter code mentioned in an earlier thread, EG, EH, EK, EM? Want to figure out what I've got here. Thanks!

Found only one marking, on the top of the case 9 digits followed only by the letter E, then the VW logo and the numeral 5. I wonder if there were soft metal i.d. tags that had E and the following letter. Wiped grime off of surfaces that were flat enough to be stamped, haven't found anything yet. No marking on the diff housing that I could find either.

If memory serves me well I think it was on the upper area of the trans...although there's also a number engraved in the bottom of the diff housing but I don't think the code was there
