It's strange how you list each tiny state individually, but summarize more than half your trip with one word. Hope you enjoy >Canada> |

Dob,
Great time to visit Pr. Rupert... a few days after Canada Day!(miss the crowds)
Spend your Fourth of July touring the Museum of Northern BC. A stellar site and quite good at presenting a history of the Northern part of coastal BC.
If museums suck, old town on the Harbour has some great seafood and marine stuff to look at. PR was a pretty big Military Depot during WWII and has some underground tours. Rent Kayaks and paddle the extensive Harbor.
A class A Grizzly Bear Tour will take you to the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary.
Out of town a bit are a preserved Ol'Fish Cannery and a Provincial Park for camping. The Campground is in deep old growth forest so, if the weather is wet and drippy, staying in town is perhaps a better option. Salmon Fishing!
I've not had difficulty spending a few days in Prince Rupert.
Hope you enjoy the rest and ferry layover...

Well.... there is a limit to the number of characters in a topic ....and I could have included every state from MD to the West.... and I hate to say it but most of the time in CN is travel and is only 2 weeks of a 10 week trip.... but that can be rectified in a future trip... _________________ Dave O

One week until wheels up.
Still trying to tie up loose ends before I leave next Saturday.
Went to a friends birthday car show. He works on Jags and hot rods on the side and has a car show in his yard every year for his birthday. I was a thorn among roses but did attract a lot of good attention.

June 8 9am: All is well. Made it from Maryland to Eganville, Ontario on Saturday. It was neat to take the ferries from Cape Vincent NY to Kingston ON.
Cape Vincent ferry. Holds 8. I made it there as they were raising the ramp tp leave. Only leaves on the hour. They made room for me. Whew!
Next, the ferry from Wolfe Island to Kingston. Customs on Wolfe Island was a low key pleasure.
Wonderful hosts 'wecm31' Gerald and Claire.
Sunday drove down to Pancake Bay on Trans Canada Hwy 17. Nice 2 lane road. But they forgot pavement for a 20km stretch. (Vibration does funny things to an iPhone6 camera trying to image stabilize )
It rained the last half of the drive. Lake Superior was a bowl of pea soup. Nothing to see so I went to bed early. Here is the campsite. Many of the sites had electric hookups at the site. You would be able to see Lake Superior on the other side of the trees if it wasn't socked in.
Left at 0630 this morning and am crrently in a Tim Hortons in Wawa. 😀
It has been a challenge to get pics to download on their wifi. (Edit, Well this store has no customers so wifi is fine).
More later when I have real wifi at denwoods in Thunder Bay later today. _________________ Dave O

Great start to the trip! Van is looking great. I lived in Marathon, ON for 3 years and had a coworker from Wawa. Beautiful spot! There used to be a great Greek restaurant in the Shell station at Terrace Bay.
Thanks for the vicarious adventure! _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

It's now a great italian restaurant called Rattler's! Very good food and reasonably priced too. Look for the 60 foot tourist lighthouse, it's right across the street |

Excellent start. You'll be seeing parts of Canada I have never been to. Make sure you stop and see me in Calgary. The paint on my van will still be wet but I'll be dying to show it off to someone who might be interested. _________________ 1984 Medium Blue Vanagon Westfalia 2WD w/ rebuilt Auto, Peloquin differential, 3.27 R&P gears, 2002 Subaru 2.5L engine, Girling G60 front brake upgrade, PS, power mirrors

Currently posting from a burger place in Ignace Ontario in the middle of nowhere on the trans Canada hwy. Man there is a LOT of space out here. Absolutely nothing like taking a US interstate across the country.
Made it to Thunder Bay yesterday.
On the way I had a great roast beef sandwhich in Terrace Bay with a cool river drop to Lake Superior.
Missed denwwod in Thunder Bay so I bailed to the Walmart. Actually got a great nights sleep.
Winnipeg is the destination this evening. I'm staying with wecm42's brother in their driveway. _________________ Dave O

I've been staying in the bus at BNW's. Thanks Mark!
Got a lot of maintenance done yesterday.
The last few months the temp has not stayed as solid as it used to. Usually it would be at 182 on the scangauge. But it had been creeping up to 188-190 on hills where before that would not happen. I surmised (hopefully) that the stat was not opening as well or at the same temp as when it was new (dealer part). I got two new stats from a Subaru dealer in Calgary and tested them in hot water They both started opening at about 175-180 and were fully open by 190 or so. I swapped out the old stat and tested it against the remaining new stat. And it did not open mucch at all! Drove up to Lake Louise today and the temp was solid at 175-177 no matter how much I climbed. 😀 This is actually a little cooler than I would optimally want but should not be an issue. May even be better for whenwe cross Death Valley at the end of July. 😀
The valves were also desperately in need of an adjustment and doofus me did not realize that the EJ25 has solid lifters. The valve adjustment was exactly the same as on ky old '71 bus and '77 911. Easy peasy, just time consuming. I have a much quieter and happier engine.
Last thing was an oil change. 😀
Pic from the drive to Lake Louise campground today to reserve a site in the electric fence campground for when my son arrives Sunday. On line reservations don't start until the 17th.
I'm going back to BNW's this afternoon to help him reinstall everything on the shell of a beautiful Westy he has. I helped him install a couple windows yesterday evening. 😀
GTG at his place Saturday afternoon to continue the install. _________________ Dave O

Sorry to hear your having to turn wrenches on you rig while on vacation. I realize that is a foreign statement as we all do it.
My trans shipped from AA Transaxle this week so maybe it will make the 2 week trip and make it here in time to install it while your here.....hint hint.
Safe travels Dave. _________________ 84' Westy 2wd

Dave when are you going to be in Arizona? I might be in Flagstaff for work in July. If you will be around maybe we can meet up for a drink. I could also give you a tour of the Observatory out here. Lot of good breweries in Flagstaff! _________________ 1967 L633 VW beetle (currently being restored...slowly)
