Are there any deep sumps 2" deep or less that use the shoulder nuts so the studs in the case don't need to replaced?

Thanks.

This what I have done using a Scat 1.5 Sump with Berg Nuts (cut to length) I hope this gives you some ideas. Wink

Thanks for your reply.

How much does the Scat sump reduce ground clearance?

Which end of the Berg nuts did you have to cut?

Did you have to enlarge the holes the nuts go through?

Bajaman, that sump install is sweet looking.

Mike, I looked at the Scat site and it doesn't list their sump thicknesses. But CB and Berg do, measuring from 2 to 2.5". I would guess the Scat sump is close.
Those Berg nuts are referred to as GB 210NUT. Per the instructions for the installation kit GB 218, ..Berg sump that are drilled with about a 5/16" hole to accept the Berg special flanged nut.
So, if the Scat sump is thinner than the Berg sump the difference will need to be subtracted from the smooth flanged part so as not to bottom out.
I am guessing a homemade wrench was used to tighten the Berg nut.

Bill.

Bill, you about said it all, the sump is about 2 1/4" lower. I drill the Scat sump to fit the shoulder of the GB-210 nut + .005 and cut the shoulder length to .020 less than the Scat sump thickness. I also back spot-face the inside of the sump to get a flat fit using thin washers that I get from McMaster Carr. A regular 11mm wrench will work to tighten them up. Wink

I used to get the long nuts(I ferget the name of them) and machine them down to use the oe studs on some engines/sumps and also used the flat wavy washer fitted to the machined nut.

I have that scat sump. It is a heavy duty piece, compared to some of the other options. It fits tight to the case, and hangs down very little

compared to this average run of the mill sump

you can see it hangs down a good 1.5" farther
which led to this

The only issue you will have is that the Scat sump has a pretty thick flange, and I am pretty sure the stock studs will be too short. Putting in longer ones isn't bad, except the one that holds the oil pickup. If you have some ingenuity, you can make that happen, I bent a small wrench to reach it, and glued the nut in..
Also, another alternative to the Berg nuts are these, Yamaha 90179-06500 that can be found online for $1.50-$2 each or in packs of 5 on Amazon for $10. I picked this up from Vince, here is a quote from his engine build

[quote="vince1"]To go along with the case, here is the Scat Sump,

Not much work needed as mounting surfaces are ground flat after checking with a dial indicator. However, I didn't like the way Scat wants you to install their deep sump by directly screwing it in the soft mag case.

I decided to use a "stock like" installation with studs & nuts, so I searched some nuts in M6 size with an allen socket in them. Found those Yamaha exhaust nuts.

As their flared base was too large for my sump, they went on the lathe and now look like CB 8mm allen exhaust nuts.

I then drilled the sump so I could pass trough with a 6mm allen wrench

Scat should provide their sumps with similar nuts !

One question, did you have to use longer studs? The shoulder Berg nut will fit stock studs after shortening the shoulder for the Scat flange thickness.

I installed bolts from inside the case, makes for a stronger install in my opinion. I think they stuck out 5-6mm farther than stock.
