DAY 240
Yesterday we took our first trip with A-Bomb in a long time. 250 miles total to and from just north of Jamaica VT. We did have to make one unexpected stop on the way when I noticed in the rear view mirror that a big bee was flying around the back window. Everyone jumped out but me and I coaxed it out my window. I was originally looking for this spot on a river up there and must of remembered it wrong. It seemed like it was taking a real long time to get there so we headed back the way we came but we found something just as good.
This is our usual stop on Hogback mountain.Rt9

Gah, you tease me so with the awesome pictures and adventures you have! I miss mine!!
But that's a good thing--I love what you're doing with your car (as in, driving it!). |
There are adventures to be had even when not running! I know it's hard to trouble shoot but very rewarding when you get things worked out. In other words don't wait for that mechanic to call you back. Try and gel it going your self. All the info is here and in repair manuals but you have to figure it out. I'm no expert but have worked different forms of problems out often. Sometimes it's something simple like a spring that came off the secondary on Herbie's carb causing it to smoke and sometimes it's more complicated and takes days to figure out. Over all the air cooled vehicle ownership will be much more enjoyable if you don't have to rely on somebody els and you will be on the road more. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

I'm not nearly as confident nor adventurous as you, Brent, but I really like your philosophy, and do try, wherever possible, to figure stuff out & try to fix it on my old VWs.
I am still tinkering with my '69 Bug, trying to get it to run better, and it seems that each time I spend some time with it, I learn a little bit more, if not make at least some minor progress. _________________ Stock Steve

I'm thinking with this much warmer weather that car should start running happier for you, Steve. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

Well, the good news is that I am finally home for about a week more and have started tackling the car once more. Good stuff!! _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

Day 261
I drove all around the state of Connecticut. First a trip to one of our favorite places for seafood, Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale 1301 Boston Post Rd Madison, CT. Then to Hammonasset Beach State Park also in Madison. The only way this car will ever see salt again, at the beach. Then stopped at another favorite place for some ice cream on the way home at Dairy Cream 395 Ella Grasso Turnpike Windsor Locks. It turned out to be about 200 miles round trip. I took the wrong route down there and added an extra 20 miles to our trip.

DAY 265
100 more....
I decided to change the oil the other night. It was a couple weeks early but what's a couple weeks? It seems that when the oil gets low or it about due for a change the oil pressure light flickers from time to time. It happens at the same points on the way to work and then the way home. Maybe it's because I went with a TRW instead of the $34.00 German one but it seems to be a good indicator of oil levels or condition of the oil. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=
