Is it NOS if it is not a VW part?

I suppose technically it is... "NOS JC Whitney" is still NOS, I suppose...

The other day I was thinking what if 20 years from now the Empi stuff sold nowadays ever turns into the NOS stuff we see in the classifieds. Made me chuckle.

I'm trying to get my heart started again after browsing the Classifieds. WTF is going on out there??? $150 parts cars for $3500? One car shows some horrible photos in which every panel looks beat and the dash is obviously badly cracked, yet it says "good paint" and "new dash".

Then there are the parts... "NOS" SWF wiper arms that are spray painted gloss black? No such animal! $150 for a manual transmission mount?

Damn- stupidity is in the air... Shocked

People pay more around holidays...didn't you get the memo from Shell or Mobil? Very Happy

The only stupid ones are the people who buy the overpriced parts. Asking for an obnoxious amount is greed. Paying those prices is stupid.

Speaking of that... I was looking at this ad and was surprised to see someone emailed on it:

Type 3 column - $500
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1773366

It was a month ago so it obviously didn't sell but the fact that someone even emailed on it... WTF.

He also said it's an "early '67" based on it having wide 5. Wasn't '65 the last year of wide 5 on type 3s? Not sure, just asking.

65 is indeed the last year of wide 5. There are more things wrong with the ad than correct. The dash isn't correct for a 67 because they have rubber round knobs vs. the slider style.

Looks like a '67 dash to me... '68 was when they discontinued the slider knobs. '67 had sliders but all the other knobs went to black rubber. '67 was also the first year of the split speaker grille.

Yep, you're right...chromed slider knobs...Spent too much time in front of a computer staring a statistics today. Rolling Eyes

Regardless of year, it looks like a $150 car vs. a $1500 car...not much left of it.

Instead of buying a restored 019, "pay a little more" for an NOS one. How is double considered a little more?

I don't question the level of quality of the customization, but that's already 356 prices.
