Just installed a Bug Pack hideaway muffler on my ghia. I'm glad I heeded the warnings that it might not fit and need modification, and therefor bought the painted version. I had to cut the tube from the header to the muffler, at the muffler, and rotate the muffler to near vertical to avoid it hitting anything. I then had to cut off at the muffler and rotate the tail pipe assembly accordingly. I still had to slightly dent in the bottom of my right rear wheel well to gain clearance. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the fit and sound. I still have to weld on a tab for a hanger, and strip and repaint it with VHT. The tail pipe end needs a slight trimming to avoid scraping when I back down our steep driveway approach. My ghia is slightly lowered and running low profile 15" tires, so that wouldn't be a problem with a stock height ghia.

I have the same one. I got away without any cutting and welding. I used a few large hose clamps to pull it away from touching anything. It has been a nice piece... until you drive over dirt. Then you send up a dust storm Crying or Very sad

What headers are you guys using , merged or 4:1 ? Could have different outcomes of geometry. I have thought about this route because my dual QP have gotten banged up alot because it sits so low.

More pics?

Here's a rear view. The header is the standard bugpack ceramic header. I'm not sure how to tell 4 into 1 vs merged. Inform me if you will.

Merged. I got mine from Kymco in Newport beach. Reasonable price and pretty good quality header. Ive had no issues. I am currently working on a custom dual quiet pack type muffler system. Time to change it up. Cool

The merged header, like darrel has , Is longer in the area where the four pipes join , allowing the exhaust flow to 'merge' for a more efficient escape.

I have 4:1 header so it might mean having to do the cut and weld if i go that way. Good to know info, Thanks.

I like the sound. Not as noisy as a Mondo, which I currently have in place, but similar sounding, only 2/3 as loud. It is a "turbo" muffler though that comes with the hideaway kit, so it's not as quiet as stock.
