You might consider these for your taillights-
They would look close to scale for, say, a barndoor or or other early bus. AND they are VW issue!
I've got one I would donate if you like.

Just about finished the kart now. Just waiting on some stickers and a small bit of trim to complete.
Back window in to keep little hands out of the engine bay. D and T is for Dilly and Tim cause I don't fancy making them one each,

Kart has been hitting some shows. Even raced it in a soapbox race. slowest down the hill and fastest back up.
