What was the period of manufacture of these parcel trays?
I've only ever seen them with the perforated headliner style material covering them.
Anyone got any pics of earlier one(s)? |

That would be great; any kind of recon on these is very helpfully.
I'm also curious to know where the back rest sits in relation to the rear tray.
ie: does the back rest sit under the tray or just rest infront? |

Fortunately enough soon after I posted on this thread I managed to get my hands on an original Kamei version, to use it as a template (as it wasn't mine; thanks Brad if your reading this). I used old headliner from an early 60's bus to cover it in and old 60's-70's era speaker cloth from vintage SANYO speakers I found on the side of the road. The plan was to keep it looking as legit & old school as possible whilst incorporate modern 6x9 speakers.
I'll have more pics when I get around to it but the above is the finished article. |

My friend has one for sale. All smooth black leatherette. Has a speaker built in. Maybe later model but not home made. |

Original Kamei rear package shelf, installed in my car at MAHAG, Munich, Germany in early June 1957.
There's a good look at the Kamei rear package shelf and the Red Scottish Plaid fabric underneath.
Close up of original Kamei label.
This is the ONLY accessory in/on my 1957 European Export Oval, it did at one time have have a roofrack and an extra set of Hella horns on the front bumper, both of which were taken off before I bought it, maybe I'll add both back on the car in the future?
Tom
Here's the story of my car:
