I would be drawn to something like this, needs rebuild and possible trans, not a big deal, needs paint, probably some cosmetic stuff - but it's what I would expect for 2500. Just search through the classifieds and try to look around on what might be a price for a car in that shape.
If you are dead set on that 69 though, you should get it. Not trying to stop you or anything - you could be the one to save it. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

Seems like a lot of money for that much bog fiberglass and rust... that car is going to cost many thousands to restore... (not just in metal but in hours too). I wouldn't even waste time to give a offer for the white car unless I wanted parts off it.
Take your time, the better body you can find the much easier life is. Even spending a couple more grand to get something more original (where you can at least see the rust holes and its not hiding under someone elses 'repairs' because really it's a ghia and they all will have rust in the same places but it just depends how extensive it is) you will be in a far better position. Another option is buying someone elses project but that's risky in that you don't know if all the parts are there and its much harder to put back together if you aren't familiar with them. _________________ 1960 Beetle ''Heidi" daily driver

I wasn't exactly hunting but never expected to find a Ghia at the Columbus Home & Garden Show.
Cedarbrook Nursury creates some very unique displays every year for the show.
Here's a video clip from Good Morning Columbus about this years garden.

Oh I know it's a hack job, they made afew prototypes but never flew. I think it's a terrible shame they cut up a type 34. On the other hand would love to have that dudes garage. |
About 16 if I recall correctly.
But these have faults you've never heard of, like roof pillars rusting away(!).
Karmann factory wasn't using any paint at all(!) under roof & pillar lining (or many other places) so they rust away in record time, especially C-pillar.
One reason there aren't so many T34s left.
Creating those pillars from scratch is a major job so easier to make a convertible?
So not necessarily butchering of a good roof. (It can be that too, of course.) _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26

First Ghia I've seen "in the wild" since having mine, I'd really like to talk to the guy about some parts - he had another Ghia in his yard - this one was sitting in a empty lot that I guess was his. The house was impossible to get to by the road, it was behind a closed business..

The nose has never been hit.
The rockers are shot and the pans are not that far behind.
The drivers door and engine lid are rusty on the bottom.
It also has 4 wheel drums and low back seats, so someone as been changing stuff on the car.
He's asking $5000
Not exactly sure what I should offer him, anyone have some insight???
My wife really likes the car and wants a new project. |

Did you give him a "I'm concerned for your heath" look when he said 5g?
$ 1,900 Max. Start at 12. Peel the Benjamins.
Be kind, walk away. He'll call. _________________ Oversteer is when the back of the car hits the wall... |

What you know as the truth is it's worth what the market will bear; or what someone is willing to pay for it. In the seller's favor, they only have to find one buyer. That may be you or it may be someone else. To compare it to the "classifieds" is a losing proposition from the start. All you can find there are asking prices. Seems like "patina" and "rat rod" are inflationary words 'round those parts. "Hey look! I got rust. That's an extra grand." Bottom line; if it's worth 2.5 to 3k to you, then go for it and be happy. It's only your happiness we're really talking about, right? Negotiate & find where the seller is really. Do your best, no regrets. Preparation and patience go a long way to increasing your luck. So, good luck! _________________ Oversteer is when the back of the car hits the wall... |

I posted this in the main Ghia thread but thought I would share it here also. 1965 Karmann Ghia sitting in Terlingua Texas without a motor since 1981. Seller wanted $1200. We made a deal.
