Hey Guys,
Today I met a gentlemen in the military and he was stationed in Germany. He bought a 1969 ex military Thing while over there years ago and brought it back to the states.
While over there he used to buy Thing parts and sell them on eBay to make a little extra money. This was years ago and the car is now sold, but he had some parts that have been in storage for years.
I was lucky enough to buy a set of military Thing wheels, a military Thing wiring diagram, a bumper mount jerry can holder, a military Thing hitch, exhaust elbows, and a Thing german magazine.
Here are some pictures. I put the wheels in storage before I got pictures.
Here are my questions:
1. Is there a way to tell if the Jerry Can holder is a Thing piece are is it just a generic piece?
2. Same question with the hitch. Is it a Thing Military piece, or is it a generic piece?
3. Can someone tell me what the Thing magazine says, or what it is?
4. Is there any difference between Thing Military wheels and standard Thing wheels?
Thanks for the help |

The jerry can holder and the hitch are generic parts and were not part of the military package found on a 181. The booklet you have is a parts list of a vendor in Germany that sells 181 parts. I think he is still in business. There is a picture of all the military stuff the Type 181 came with in the gallery, I think. |

The pintle hitch is a pretty standard affair as well. I have an identical looking one that will bolt onto either my Toyota Land Cruiser or my Dodge pickup. |
