I was checking to see if anybody had used nonoriginal or aftermarket mirrorss I have a 1969 Ghia and get a few Shocked looks around here. It's that I have a Kawasaki mirror that came mounted on it. anyone else have something that they would like to show or pictures of things they've seen?

The stock mirrors were my first choice, but they tend to wobble and vibrate at high speed, people were always bumping into them and messing them up.
I picked up a set of reproduction talbot mirrors from cip and modified the bases slightly so they would sit higher and have a better line of sight.
I think they're cheap, look good, and work better than the originals, no more constant adjustments.

I think the Talbot type look great, that was also on my list. At the time I was only looking at NOS ones, I should take a second look at those.

They look great.

Those look pretty sweet on ghias!

What type of modifications did you have to make to get then on your 70-71?

I am looking for a mirror that is more stable on my 71, but I would rather not make permanent alterations just in case a later owner might want to switch back.

Some people like to use the Porsche 'Durant' mirror from the early 911/912 cars...

I ended up going with a black talbot repro, I really like it. No more Kawasaki!

Still not finished but I am running GT3 style mirrors. Will be paint matched to the vehicle. I intend on creating a metal spacer in order to bring the base of mirror out about 1/4"

Looks good. Fits your paint scheme. Didn't know they came in flat black.

i got them on eBay. They were actually $25 for two - I thought I was only ordering one. OK quality, I am sure the real ones are nicer.

I've been thinking about installing the repo Talbots on my 71 vert. Are they a direct bolt on? I know the right mirror will be useless but I will try to modify it. Can you please post a link of the correct ones to get.

I installed my left/drivers side on the same location as the original. The right one does not have to be useless since you are willing to adjust the location. I did a trial and error fitting while checking sight from the driver's seat, drilling holes and bolting it only after I got the right location then put a convex mirror over the flat one that came with it. I now have a useable right mirror.

chevypitstop (17165) is the seller I got mine from.

I ordered the smaller size, I imagine a passenger mirror would work better in the larger size due to the position below the top of the door. My driver side mirror is fine, and the previous owner had deleted the passenger side holes years before I owned it.

I did have to drill another hole to get it mounted, it did cover ALL previous holes. However I had to auger one out to make it adjust up and down a little more to be able to see at the right angle.

Probably less visibility than my Kawasaki, but who wants people looking at that. I think he may have meant to send me one, now they are twice what I paid which makes sense.
