I've been fortunate enough to have struck a deal on a Manx Resorter #12. A fellow Manx Club member posted a link to it on FacePlant (Facebook as I call it) a few days ago, and a deal was quickly made.

The history as I know it. This was originally one of the Hawaii cars, and is 12th one made. It stayed in Hawaii until 2001, when a sailor brought it back to the mainland with him. It was sold to a new owner shortly thereafter, and restored by a Custom Hot Rod Shop. After the restoration, it sat outside, and the owner of the shop bought it back after seeing it sit for quite a while.

He's had it since 2004, but is thinning his herd.

Another Manx Club member is bringing her to the east coast in a 24' enclosed trailer he was towing over to the east coast, so it's made this entire deal much easier. I did get it for what I felt was a very good deal, but after the recent completion of Loretta (my Manx), I did have to do some creative money laundering and rob a small bank to get it. Won't be able to afford the new motor for Loretta for a while, so her other will just have to do. Also pushes the Manxter build back for at least a year, but we will have this one to enjoy.

If anyone knows more of the history, or something above is wrong, please correct me. I'm remembering what I can from the discussion with the previous owner, and I was fairly excited about it, and might not have heard all of this stuff correctly.

My wife, who did not care for VW's at all before our Manx on the Banx trip last fall, fell in love with fiberglass buggies at the event. She wants a Manxter, but has said that this one will be hers until the Manxter is completed next century.

She did help with a few of the choices for things to do with my Loretta, but never really voiced a true opinion on what should be done.

Funny though, already with this one, she's already insisted that the top be repainted either white or tan, and is looking at other items to do.

For me, the exhaust has to go. Needs something more fitting for a buggy. It also sags a little in the rear, so the torsions will be re-indexed, along with some larger tires for the back. I like a little more aggressive look.

Nice Buggy, I love that body with the open sides, that is about the only buggy I would trade my Allison Daytona for, or work up to. Your not that far from me. Maybe Ill get to see yours in person one day at a show. Your wife is right the top would look good white to go with the seats.

That looks awesome!! One day I hope ours looks that good. I have a few things to change pretty quickly (not to interfere with my other buggy's completion).

Where in NC are you? I'll be heading down from WV to Columbia, SC on Sunday the 28th with it, and would love to stop by, as long as you're not too far off the beaten path.

I'm not sure of any of the details at the moment. Will let you know when the time gets closer.

Since she's in the south, and we wanted a name to go with her personality, and since it's technically for my wife (until maintenance/repairs are needed), she picked one suggested by RedBaronofRedBud, Miss Scarlett, although we just call her Scarlett. My wife is a huge Gone With the Wind fan, so it fit perfectly.

She got loaded up in another Manx Club member's trailer, and had some fun along the way. 15 people will fit in one Resorter!

I drove up to West Virginia this last Saturday morning, and found her carousing with the Puzzle Manx. I swear he gets around. He spent a lot of nights with Loretta, and now he's been making moves on Scarlett. He's had a pretty good time with both the sisters.

I was happy with what I saw, and had to send a photo to her previous owner. Pretty happy here:

One of Joe's friend's son had to go for a ride, so we took a spin around the block, to the gas station and back (luckily that's where she ran out of gas). He was pretty happy.

I got her ready to roll back to SC the next morning, and headed out about 8:00.

I didn't let ABinNC know in time when I'd be passing through, so we weren't able to meet up, but hope to in the near future. Would love to see his, and get some detailed pictures of the side bars, so that I can have some replicated. The previous owner got rid of them back in 2004 when the restoration was done, so they're ancient history.

I arrived back home after stopping to meet NSFR for lunch, and had to take a rest after staying up late the night before with joescoolcustoms having buggy talk time. No regrets as usual though. I love to learn, and obviously, he's a master buggy guy.

I took her for a spin around town for about 20 miles, and then tucked her away. She's in the driveway now, but will maintain her residence in the garage in Georgia when I get her home this weekend.

There are a few things that need to be addressed immediately:

1. The steering coupler is one of the urethane ones that are know to fail catastrophically, and is cracked, so that will be replaced with a Rhino one from CB Performance.

2. The steering box needs some adjustment to get rid of the 1/8th to 1/4 turn slop.

3. The newly installed gas line rubs the clutch cable.

4. The carbs are in need of a small adjustment.

Other than that, she's ready to roll. I'm wanting to change the stance a bit, and will try the tires and wheels I pulled off Loretta to see if that will work, and use as a comparison. I've got another idea for wheels and tires that Joe came up with, but won't share that until it's done.
