can anybody tell me the year Bus the mustache bar in the back comes out of that properly fits a type 3 conversion?
is it the one with a platform welding on either side

One on the right??

The one that came on my 72 411 engine was not correct but I could have swore that I used a different bus one on my last T4 conversion

I remember cutting to width length but then just drilling different holes through to mount to the OG type 3 body mounts

I made an under engine mount but it is quite visible and I like the simplicity of the one that actually came on the motor

Item "J" is a Vanagon mount bar ('80-'83.5). What that picture does not show is the cast aluminum mount that bolts to the engine that the rubber mounts ("B" & "C") actually mount to. It's a 4 piece system.

That's what my son is planning on using on his conversion. He's already got the parts here, just needs to find the time to put stuff together. He's even got both the bus heat exchangers, and a ceramic coated bus header for it (along with a super trap muffler Wink ). Very Happy

i had I and A on the engine that has the 2 angled rubber mounts
they were trashed so i had to cut it off to get it off...
came stock from the 72 411
It Would Not work
theres no way the engine/trans was That off
the passenger side lined up right but wasnt high enough
the T4 engine/trans tin is maybe 1/2" from hitting body
the driver side was probably 3" towards the rear of the car) and Way too Long

as it sits the bottom of the progressive air breather sits right above the engine lid

are there differences in curve or over all length?

That is what I used in my conversion also. You can check out how I used it, along with my mid mount in my signature line.

How about measurements of height inside engine bay?
And is anyone using the T4 tin between the engine and trans?

I was, but the engine is out of the car, and on my TIG table. You could look thru my Squareback gallery, as I have pics of the engine in the car there. Wink

Basically you set your own height. On my build, I angled the engine down just a couple of degrees. It allowed me to use the stock bus carb setup for my 1st go.

I then tried some Brazilian Webers

I then switched over to the standard Type 4 ICT kits (sorry no pics.)

And last my 40DCNFs. In fact I almost have enough room to run the tall air cleaners with the 40DCNFs, but I am afraid they might rub occasional.

I always say to make your motor mounts fit what style of intake system you plan on running. When I did mine, I mocked up an empty long block, installed the carbs and air cleaners and made my mounts from there.

I guess I used the wrong paint on the engine Embarassed , as I put it back together (dropped valve), I will use a better paint
