I want to use this center mount fan shroud in my bug on a 1600 motor with dual baby webers. I cannot imagine the fan going behind the shroud as suggested by the way the generator mounts to the shroud. Also, how am I supposed to cover up the space between the generator and shroud?
I've never seen another shroud like this, I believe it's from the late 80's ( before I was born).

You may want to start by mounting the alternator on the other side and putting the fan inside the shroud... Then later ask why your motor is running so hot..
Sorry for the sarcasm... |

Oh God.
I don't even know what to say! That NEVER occurred to me.
Thank you SO much. The sarcasm was great, I really deserved it.
I maybe should've put a little more thinking into it.
Your comment has me literally LOL.
Thanks for your comments guys. Appreciate the help. _________________ one, two, many

Do you smell that?
It smells like cooked engine. _________________ Glenn

I don't think it will run hotter since I will have to use an external oil cooler. We will see though. _________________ one, two, many

It will run hotter unless it is modified. There's a build on here.....Ray Valero stroker build where the car owner has one of these and had it modified. Claims that it works fine. And avout the external oil cooler....these motors are air cooled...not oil cooled. Unless that shroud is internally modified, it will run hot. _________________ Good things come to those who wait.

I will look for that post in the forums thanks! I'd really like to use it, but only if I can get it to work well. I see in a post by Glenn that it doesn't cool well, since it doesn't have cooling vanes inside, which makes sense. Maybe I can figure out a way to make it cool properly.
@fivelugshortaxle I got the heads yesterday man! I love them, thanks so much again! _________________ one, two, many

Glenn doesn't think it will work, others do think it will work. This post was from last year, anyone have any new information on it? Did it work well? _________________ one, two, many

The center mount fans were for show, not go.
Not only do they not work very well, they will crack too.
Best to leave it alone. They are beautifully made, but poorly designed! |

Uh oh... not one of those.
Though no one can really be certain, I'd sell my first born if you could make that shroud cool as well as a stock shroud - no matter the mods you do to it.
Also, an external oil cooler does nothing to cool your heads.
You may be underestimating the cooling abilities of a stock fan shroud... take this into consideration. If you run a pair of these drag race fans ( http://www.piersideparts.net/CB2813.html which are dedicated strictly to cooling your heads) on the street, you'll cook your engine in a few miles.
I chuckled at the careful wording CIP1 uses... "Designed to provide equal airflow for uniform and increased cooling. Better cooling means more useable horsepower."
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C12-4521
A perfect example of just because it's designed to do something, doesn't mean it works. |

slant shrouds absolutely do NOT cool evenly. Why do you think the VW factory offset the fan on the stock engine, or were they stupidz? _________________ It's just advice, do whatever you want with it!

Yeah, but... but... and a filterpump? AND a big ass rottweiler? But... but... but...
But, that just can't be!

I wouldent waste $ or thyme on building a small motor. build it big so it dosent have to work hard.remember it's only as fast as your foot alows it to be unless you build a small turd then it just stinks as it squishes up through your toes when you step on it. |
