|
|
Anybody done this?
On one of my handles, the part that actuates the door lock has broken, I have removed the pin and taken it apart and would love to get a replacement to rebuild it, rather than replace the whole handle, anyone know of a source for these?
Also anyone know a source for replacement springs? mine are rather rusty. |

It's a holiday weekend, most are either out driving their Ghias or out with family. Someone will answer after the weekend Im sure. _________________ -Jared

What year are you working with? Post pics of your handle's broken bits. _________________

It's from a '68 ghia vert
I've looked at a beetle handle, but it looks different, unless I'm looking at a different year. |

my parts book shows the handle # 113 837 205 M being the same for 68-74 ghia as 68-79 bug but their are probably different manufacturers with slight differences but mount the same. Post a pic of your handle.
source some used German handles to find the pieces. _________________ Rick

Your handle is a POS repro, throw it away and get a good used German handle. Save the pointy part on the end of the lock cylinder that lifts or lowers the mechanism in the door, that is KG specific. Then get any 68 and later Beetle or Ghia handle. If you find a Beetle handle, transfer the pointy part onto it.
The correct handle for your car is 68-70. 71 is the same handle but the wrong lock cylinder. Then 72 and later has the larger trigger and the wrong lock cylinder. My preference would be to get two 72 and later handles and transfer your lock cylinders. I find the larger trigger is much easier to operate, especially when the mechanism gets gummed up. _________________

Bruce, I'm pretty sure it's an original, judging by the amount of pitting on it. need to check part numbers though. |

Is "pointy part" an official VW parts term? Is there a part number for that? _________________ -Jared

The trigger shape in your pic is what the aftermarket handles from Brazil have. If you check the part number, the last digit will be a number, not a letter. VW of Brazil didn't use letters.
Is your key a "K" type blank? _________________

Bit more info. Part number on my broken one is III 837 205J, which is on the back of the handle, I have 3 other handles, which all have the part number by the lock, T1 K096, 36K087, 36K076, none of which will fit, well at a push they will, but they won't operate the door mechanism. |
