What's the best why to get it cleaned out, with the body on the pan. I was removing all the tar board and saw thought the hole in the FWD door post it has a lot of stuff in their. This is on a 62 if that helps.
Thanks Dake |

What i believe hes talking about is the bottom of the A-pillars, under the hood.
Also known as the "black holes" or "bermuda triangles"...
Ive used a shop vac with a long slim nozzle... Also used a cardboard wrapping paper roll... _________________ ✠Miklo✠

Ok that’s why my search came back with nothing . I was using the wrong term. Yes the Bermuda triangles is what I’m trying to clean out. |

Here is a pic of the hole you can see it is full. I know it hard to see with all the glue. |

Best as practical is all you can do with the car still together
Strong Vacuum cleaner with the smallest hose and narrowest extension you can find. Short of that try taping an empty paper towel tube to the end of your hose as an extension that will give a little to conform to the nooks and cranny's better. Not too rough or you risk denting/damaging the flexible defroster hose or worse knock it loose from the bottom.
Make sure the little drain hole is open at the bottom of the quarter panel where it meets the heater channel. It should be unclogged to allow any water trapped to drain out. Once open you can also blow up from the bottom with compressed air with the vacuum running to catch the grit.
After you've done your best with that method, on a warm sunny day pour in hot soapy water and then flush with water from a garden hose to remove dirt and dust and to make sure the drain is working well.
With drip pans placed under the drains follow up by flooding with WD40 to displace trapped water and form a thin short term barrier, and for long term apply a heavier rust preventive Cavity Oil like this example...

You should be able to see the defrost hose where it meets the fitting on the heater channel through that hole. I don't think that's glue you are seeing, if it is, then you definitely want it out of there.
I've used a "claw" style pickup tool to root around down there and pick up stuff.

after sandblasting, I reduced hose with some duct tape and smaller pipe on a shop vac and then blew air into the inspection hole, if it was loose, it got sucked up, worked well. |

I had something rolling around in ours before we did the restoration, I put a long extension magnet pickup tool in there and pulled out all sorts of crazy stuff. Found someone's old sockets.
Also put the small shop vac hose down in there and just keep moving it around and sucking crap out... _________________ 1966 Beetle - Our Build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611939 |

Yep to all the above!
Then there's the "Double-Whammy" . . . do the small hose adapted to the Shop-Vac and at the same time, also blow compressed air into the door hinge screw holes! _________________ Jesucristo es mi Señor y Salvador! |

I have found if you take the hood and the hood arms off, using a bright light, looking down at various angles, you can actually see to the bottom of the black hole..
Air pressure blow nozzle, and a vacuum cleaner use in tandem will do the trick.
Wear a dust mask and safety glasses..
Separating the body from the pan will do no good to clean that area... unless you flip the body upside down and start shaking it... Kinda like an etch-o-sketch... or are replacing the channels.
