The car is a fully restored 1971 SB convertible painted Viper red with a tan canvas top. It currently has stock wheels and tires but I want something in a custom rim that looks good and adds value to the car. I don't want something so wild that it interferes with strut/fender clearance or the accuracy of the stock odometer. I know this is highly a subjective topic but I am interested in all opinions. Thanks in advance. |

I'm not close to being an expert on tires and rim sizes so if I wanted to stay as close to "stock" on the front but go a bit wider on the rear, what size tires and rims should I buy? Also, is there a difference between aluminum, alloy, chrome, polished or plated? The terminology is confusing if you don't know the differences. |

Most of the wheels with a VW bolt pattern will have an offset that will work with your car. Any wheel from 4.5" to 5.5" wide should work.
Finding a tire to fit your car can be a problem. If you go too wide you may have rubbing problems.
As for a wheel finish, I'd personally stay away from chrome. The quality of chrome finish varies greatly and often doesn't last more than 2 or 3 years before rust sets in. I'd go with either a polished or painted finish, or a combination of both. |
