My clock died so I got ahold of an earlier clock from a 411 . The issue is the fuel guage is all over the place when the tank is full and then when it gets close to 1/2 a tank it doesn't register at all. Do I need a voltage stabilizer otr is this incompatible with the later model 412 fuel tank sender?
Thanks _________________ 1982 Westy, 1974 412 Variant... Yes, Aircooled's are great! Oh and I do have modern computer controlled vehicles too, but I just don't care about them. |

You can just swap the clock mechanism. Ray |

I have the exact same issue! My 1974 clock never worked, and I found a NOS 411 clock with gas gauge. ( The 1971 has a chrome edge, the 1074 doesn't. ) The sending units for the 411 and 412 are totally different-looking. I don't know if I can put a 411 sending unit in my 412.
Or I can put the old non-working clock back in and have a working gas gauge. It's a pain in the rear to pull the clock and speedo, so I don't know... |

If you pull the whole clock gas gauge unit out....it only takes a few small mods to fit either clock mechanism to either clock body. The later clocks were quartz and were roughly the same as the last year of type 3.
Also...unless you see physically brokem or rusted parts in a mechanical clock.....about 90% of the time it only needs to be cleaned, properly lubed and needs to have the thermal fufufuse resoldered.
Every single non op Keinzle clock I have ever seen was because of the thermal fuse. There is a major thread here and also on thr STF about repairing these clocks. Ray |

My 412 had the junky VDO clock with the plastic gear mechanisms and those where what failed. I will check out swapping the clock mechanism. So I have the right fuel guage. _________________ 1982 Westy, 1974 412 Variant... Yes, Aircooled's are great!
