So I have four disassembled engines on the shelf. A 1600 that came in boxes with my 1967 Beetle, a 1500 Industrial Engine that has all the right parts except for the correct H0... case, a correct H0... case engine that actually had 87 mm pistons and cylinders on it, and a busted 1500 parts engine for $25.

The idea was to use most of the industrial engine plus the correct H case and build an engine that is as close to matching numbers as it gets. The VIN and engine number are only a month apart.

With my luck, one of the engine studs came out with a whole lot of extra metal on it and now the thread in the case is ruined. The thread on the stud was twisted at the end and stripped all the thread out of the case.

Where can I get the best tap and sleeve tool to fix this and use a regular engine stud?

Thanks for any help!

Andy

These time serts work good. The link is 10 x 1.5 mm. stud . I'm pretty sure but not absolute. Double check before buying.

Thanks! The Time-Sert product looks great.
The engine block is an H0... 1500 made in November 1966.

Does anyone know of the cuff which size and depth to get?
Does that mean 8mm studs?

Thanks,

Andy

P.S.: I am still amazed how much knowledge I simply forgot by not playing with classic Beetles for about a decade. I can barely remember the years and models of the fifteen Beetles I had in the 1990s. Getting old.

8 mm as in head studs? later cases used 10 mm studs
Yeah it's amazing how stuff goes by the way side when you aren't involved with it each day Laughing
